Re: SMU needs how many wins for smallest postseason tournameI didn't mean to come off harsh, that first question sounds like it, I just mean there's not really a way to know right now. It's relatively early and the make-or-break part of SMU's season doesn't start til Memphis. That's really going to dictate where this team goes. Hopefully get a couple road game wins here and then play Memphis tough. Squeeze out a win there, and they're ranked and in great shape.
Re: How many wins is SMU from getting any postseason tournam
no, i said i was only focusing on the big one. the others (other than the NIT) are pretty spare. Derail the Frogs!
Re: SMU needs how many wins for smallest postseason tourname
Do not worry, your meaning was very clear.
Re: SMU needs how many wins for smallest postseason tourname
That would be good. #HammerDown
Re: SMU needs how many wins for smallest postseason tournameI don't mind if people ask the question about how many wins till any postseason tourney, especially considering how starved for ANY postseason basketball we have been around here. But my personal preference is not to focus on anything other than the NCAA tourney while we're playing well, riding high, and getting significant national publicity around our NCAA tourney chances.
It's kind of like as soon as others have started telling us we could make it to the Dance, we've stopped believing in ourselves and started reaching for whatever comfort we could find. When we lose a few and our NCAA chances are suddenly in serious doubt, I'll start looking seriously at the NIT. I personally think we're already in for some type of postseason play with our coach's resume, our quality team appeal, our guaranteed over .500 record, etc. But, like most if not all on this board, I'm really not satisfied with that right now. I'm out for blood. NCAAs or bust. Let's do this.

Re: SMU needs how many wins for smallest postseason tournameMy god our fanbase has been beaten down over the decades.
Our first chance at a real-life tourney bid and we want to ask 'how can we get into the NIT?' For all you kids out there it'd be like Penny coming to knock on the door to ask a guy like Leonard out and Leonard asking "Do you think I have a shot with Amy?" #noconfidence
Re: SMU needs how many wins for smallest postseason tourname
Not asking how can we get to the NIT as if that was the ultimate goal. Obviously we all want to make the NCAA but just wanted to see what the first entry point was to any post season play. You have misunderstood want I was saying. #HammerDown
Re: SMU needs how many wins for smallest postseason tournameFair enough.
I'll say only three because we will have a couple quality wins, we have the chance to draw a few people, and Larry Brown.
Re: SMU needs how many wins for smallest postseason tourname
Good point. #HammerDown
Re: SMU needs how many wins for smallest postseason tournameI think right now the focus should really be the NCAA tournament and nothing else. I honestly don't see them missing it, not to get a head of myself, but there's nobody they should lose to other than the top 4, even on the road. Yeah, they might have to scrape by Houston or someone, but it should be a win. That's 7 wins right there, and I truly believe they're going to win 2/3 home games against Louisville, Memphis, and Cinci. That gives them 2 more quality wins, 24 wins, I also think they steal one away at Memphis or UConn. That would give them 25 and depending on how they do in the AAC tourney, looking at a 7 seed. I think that's the goal and the team goal today. I'd be shocked if it isn't something like that.
Re: SMU needs how many wins for smallest postseason tournameI don't like counting wins, but...
we are 15-4 if we beat all the ones we are better than, we are 20-4 01/26/14 at Houston (ESPNews) * TV Houston, Texas 2:00 p.m. CT 01/28/14 at USF (ESPNews) * TV Tampa, Fla. 6:00 p.m. CT 02/01/14 vs. Memphis (CBSSN) * TV Moody Coliseum 1:00 p.m. CT 02/06/14 vs. Temple (ESPNews) * TV Moody Coliseum 7:00 p.m. CT 02/08/14 vs. Cincinnati (ESPNU) * TV Moody Coliseum 6:30 p.m. CT 02/13/14 at Rutgers (ESPNews) * TV Piscataway, N.J. 6:00 p.m. CT 02/16/14 at Temple (CBSSN) * TV Philadelphia, Pa. 1:00 p.m. CT 02/19/14 vs. Houston (ESPNews) * TV Moody Coliseum 7:00 p.m. CT 02/23/14 at Connecticut (CBSSN) * TV Storrs, Conn. 1:00 p.m. CT 03/01/14 vs. UCF (ESPNews) * TV Moody Coliseum 3:00 p.m. CT 03/05/14 vs. Louisville (CBSSN) * TV Moody Coliseum 6:00 p.m. CT 03/08/14 at Memphis (ESPN/ESPN2) * TV Memphis, Tenn. 11:00 a.m. CT That leaves 7 more: at Hou Memphis Cincy Hou at UConn Louis at Memphis I think we can split HOUSTON, and take at least 2 others (like UConn and/or Cincy and/or Memphis). That leaves us 23-8. that's probably ncaa 2 of the 7 are ranked, maybe if 1 is ranked. If we sweep Hou and still take 2 others, probably in at 24-7
Re: SMU needs how many wins for smallest postseason tourname
I think the teams focus is on the NCAA tournament. I was just bringing this up for conversation to get some opinions on what the first entry point would be on any post season play. And if we do not get 25 wins it will not be a disappointing seasoning. Just ask Ohio State. #HammerDown
Re: SMU needs how many wins for smallest postseason tourname
OSU will get close to 25 wins, not saying they will get it but they should get there with a win or two especially in the B10 Tourney. I fully expect the team to get it in the regular season though. Lot of disappointment around Columbus right now.
