Far from Dallas:

I was chatting with a friend from Manchester, England this week and was trying to explain the SMU bball phenomenon taking place; how it's the prime ticket in Dallas now. I sent him the link to the Real Sports segment as some background and he was blown away. Those guys know very little about basketball and have no clue what college athletics even means, but it's just a great story. I showed him some clips of the Cinci game (and the court storming) and he commented how our fans look like the crazy EPL supporters going nuts in the pubs pre-match. That is a serious compliment from someone in Manchester. I will bring some SMU gear over there for his kids when I visit next.

The current crop of kids will have great memories of this season. I was a student during the early Dave Bliss era, but even still I have fond memories of the years with Sonny Allen, Billy Allen, Dave Piehler, Johnny James, and Brad Branson. Those teams were always fun to watch and could knock off a big opponent like Kansas every now and then.

Speaking of Billy Allen, when Sonny became SMU coach Billy attended HP. At first we thought he was a horrible point guard, he would attempt crazy passes and they would go out of bounds or turn into turnovers. We finally learned he had such great court presence and vision the rest of us were the ones that were clueless. Good guy as well. Anyone know what Billy is up to these days?

It does have that feel with the fans in all the bars on SMU blvd then walking over to moody and then back post game. That is just what it is like to go to soccer games in England. Rugby too.
