I think we are in regardless of how the Houston game plays out, but I worry about this one. Houston is competitive and I hate having to beat a team 3 times in the same season. Same reason Louisville doesn't want to see SMU in the finals. I do think a loss to Houston makes us a lock for an 8/9 seeding, which is obviously not where you want to be.

100% agree. Hate panic threads. Bad Karma.

I think we are in the tournament
But I would be interested in a study examining the results of a basketball team playing the same team for a 3rd time after sweeping the season series. Is it just perception or statistically relevent. My perception is that it happens more than the school rankings suggest it should-but maybe its within the natural percentages of probability and it just stings more when it happens.

Probably notice more when it happens. If you win it's expected so when you lose it makes a bigger impact.

With all the number crunchers and analyst type sites, I am surprised someone hadn't done a study in it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambler's_fallacy

Although ...

The outcome of future events can be affected if external factors are allowed to change the probability of the events (e.g., changes in the rules of a game affecting a sports team's performance levels). Additionally, an inexperienced player's success may decrease after opposing teams discover his weaknesses and exploit them. The player must then attempt to compensate and randomize his strategy. Such analysis is part of game theory.

Some searching showed that NFL teams that are meeting a team for the third time after beating them twice are 13-7 as of 2012, but in the NFL you are facing playoff teams which are going to be good teams. In these conference tournments you could be facing any team for a third time so the winning percentage is probably higher.

We wouldn't be inviting 7000k to Moody on Sunday if we weren't a lock. We're going.

Not sure the fire marshal will appreciate SMU cramming 7,000,000 into Moody.

I am flattered but I will not be there. And I am married.

Be sure to storm the court when the announcement is made.
