I didn't say they got caught for doing that but if you think ED was going to all his classes you might be mistaken. It was happening.

Shame on SMU. He's here to ball. I hope RGT is shown on the jumbotron so we can boo the hell out of him

You are so off base. The young man didn't handle his business as he should and now there are consequences. This has nothing to do with RGT.............. We are left to hoping for a hail mary...........

Let's all try to show some perspective here. MK has to do the work just like everyone else on the team. Effort in the class room goes along way. I am rooting for MK. Let's get it done MK!

Seriously people are way off base blaming smu on this one. Smu has easy majors for athletes, provides more than ample academic support, and only requires NCAA minimums for admission and retention. Other than going the UNC route (which I'm sure some other schools do but many do not including teams that annually are in the hunt for A NC) there is nothing else the school can do. It's on the player to make the grades. All of the chatter that he is just here to play ball and the academics shouldn't stop that, you need to become a fan of the D-league or other minor league basketball. This is college basketball not minor league nba basketball period.
This is on MK not SMU. Every other player on the roster is eligible. if smu didn't support their athletes I guarantee you there are members of the team that a) wouldn't have been admitted and b) wouldn't have made the grades last year.

SMU is to blame, everything else is tied to some completely antiquated concept of student/athlete that has no place in the current landscape. They took a kid who could barely read, promised him they'd look after his basketball dream of playing professionally, and then ruled him ineligible b/c he can't read. He was never smart enough too be eligible at SMU by any typical student standard, but they took him, profited off him, and now hung him out to dry. You brought him here to play ball and make you money. He's a sniper, an assassin, who never heard of SMU before we recruited him. Take care of him, profit.
This topic is completely cold. None of you know if we're better or worse w/o Markus, just different.
I love Markus, but Ben Moore per minute played is more productive. His numbers project nicely at 30 minutes per. Use Jmart at 4 on occasion, Sterling and Ben at 2 and 3, and you rebound very well at every spot on the floor but the 4.
Our 'lack' of bigs certainly isn't keeping us out of the tournament w/Moore/Cannen/Yanick and Jmart sharing minutes. That's a strength on most teams

So let's hope that MK is eligible for the next semester. I tend to agree with stallion that he probably just didn't quite make the GPA required. That can be fixed but MK also has to make the effort. I doubt if any of us know the actual facts behind this situation so let's just look to the future and plan for the best.

There is one thing we do know. 1 paper can make or break his eligibility. That means he is on the edge. Silver lining is it shouldn't take much more to push him over the limit to be eligible for spring semester.

I believe that is what happened. From what I understand he was not flunking a class just had GPA issues. As far as effort goes I heard he was going to classes and trying but history was too heavy a workload for his reading level. Since he was not failing he might be doing the best he can with his current abilities. No need to think he was not giving effort in that case.

Which makes this more atrocious.. You can't ride a kids back to a payday, then set him up to fail. Bad look, figure it out SMU

As Cardale Jones once said, "Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS"
School should've taken care of that for him or at least made sure it wasn't going to happen...

If every other player on the team had a higher reading level than MK then they probably should be eligible. Are you saying someone on the team else had as low of a reading level as MK?
