If I can recall in my recruitment from Stanford correctly, I had to at least have a 1200 on my SAT's to get admitted even as an athlete so needless to say, I don't think their athletes have trouble writing papers there. Not sure about Duke though. I can't recall the last time Duke University had a player ineligible for grades though. In fact, there are many rumors about Duke in the past decade of using ineligible players in games.

We admit the lowest possible scores for Athletes into SMU. That's great and all but when they can't handle the school work it becomes an issue.

Yes but they maintain top tier programs with more restrictions.

Point is, if you are going to have kids admitted to SMU that can hardly read or write, you better be sure to find a way to keep him eligible.

I don't know where you are getting your stats from or if you are just speculating but from what I have seen is the reason some high profile players don't make to their junior or senior years is because they have gone pro.

I thought he meant some high profile players with bad grades don't last long because they flunk out since the subject matter is grades.

There are a handful every year, but its pretty far from an epidemic in high level college ball. If your kids are ineligible, its on your program, support, and admin

Also, I'm sure there are many cases where kids literally don't care at all and are bad kids that don't do any work and become ineligible. I don't see Markus as being one of those kids and he seems like a good person (have been fooled before). So if we have a kid we recruited here, told his mom (who we all know is fighting for our country) we would take care of him, he gave effort in the classroom (assuming he tried) and helped us athletically, we shouldn't slam the door on him.

If he didn't go to class/gave no effort whatsoever, then shame on him.

I would agree with most of that. They have monitors so the go to class and study hall. This might be more on his educational background than effort. And we brought him here knowing that.

To some point I agree, but at this point, I see one player having academic eligebility issues. If it becomes a trend then at that point I see it as a program, support, and admin. problem. I don't see that now. Which leads me to the conlcusion that MK did not put in the work initially and is now trying to catch up. Let's don't become a UNC. Yes they won championships, but at what cost? No matter what anyone tells me ethics are still alive in this world. Yes, the sky is still blue and I live in this era.

No I meant high profile players go to the NBA, though there pare probably a good amount of players in europe and elsewhere that did flunk out at CB.
