I think the piped music selections and timing are a bigger problem than the band. Is it that hard to gauge when to play 7NA to get the crowd riled up?

When they played 7NA right before Ryan Manuel's crucial FREE THROWS--That shows a shocking lack of ability to do the job. Music person should have been canned on the spot for that.

Agreed on the 7NA...whose idea was THAT? You never play that with a timeout leading to a free throw.

As to the band...I don't know what's wrong this year. I'm a band Alum from the 90; we were there and rowdy every game. It's not like that mattered at all because there wasn't anyone there. Alcohol wasn't the problem...I was almost never drunk for those games. Maybe a beer or so with dinner before but never hammered or anything. (Football? different story...)

It's pretty clear the students and spirit squads don't know how to interact with the band (and vice versa).

Western Peruna should be buried in the same hole as Thriller Peruna.

Texas bites. Baylor sucks. As it was in the beginning, is now, and evermore shall be. Amen.

Not one person, a committee of the complainers on ponyfans who have the expertise and know exactly how to run the game presentation need to control everything. Sorry, just interested in on-the-court play and don't really pay attention to all that other crap. I guess my need to be constantly "entertained" is non-existent. Pony Up.

It is not about being constantly entertained Berger. Try to keep up. It is about crowd energy. The constant babbling from the announcer at crucial breaks last night absolutely drove me nuts. Either have the Mustang Band play or have some music going. It is not rocket science. They are trying to squeeze more advertisements into the breaks. Yes. I am fully aware that those advertisements bring revenue. Doesn't mean I have to like it. Total energy sucking.

Berger, this is Ponyfans. It's a fan board. We're supposed to complain. We do what we do.

In all seriousness, we all agree on-the-court play is the most important. It's not about the need to be entertained. It's about the "flow" of the game and atmosphere, which actually impacts the on-the-court play.

By the way, don't you go to the games to be entertained? Isn't that kinda the point of attending the sports event (unless you're a player or being paid to be there)? The entertainment factor matters.

Had the pleasure of attending a Duke NC basketball game a couple of years ago. Every time there was a timeout, a different current song (no more than a year old) was blasted from the sound system and the kids went nuts. Contrast that to us where the band doesn't play a song any newer than the 1950's (ok, maybe I exagerate a little) and the DJ is not doing much better (ok, I exagerated a little more). Only when 7NA isplayed do the kids go nuts. Whomever is in charge of the musical presentation should be fired.

Here's an idea, have a contest and pick a kid per game to program the music (g rated versions). The band gets one timeout per half and halftime..........

There was no piped in music entire first half. It was dull. Thought our crowd did very well lifting team up after nic went out, but they had no help.

Those band show tunes have to go. It's embarrassing.

You were apparently smoking crack the 1st half. There was piped in music and ZERO show tunes. I listed everything from every TO above. The problem was that the first 2-3 minutes of each of the 4 tv timeouts were devoted to lame jumbtron or on floor promos. But hey, why actually address facts, when it is fun to pile on the band?

Seriously people, I have no problem with complaints about the general lack of any emotion from the band BETWEEN TOs -- it makes me livid to see the band standing there like statues not starting or even joining in cheers. I cannot understand it one bit --- and it is not about girls in the band or being sober. The band used to be plenty loud when there was no alcohol in Moody. I was the loudest person in the building in my years, and I was never once drinking for a basketball game, and, oh yeah, I'm also a girl.

But, except for 1 song last night that should be shelved, the band's music selection during TOs was not the problem. It is the stupid promos and ads being played first in every TO, and the failure to use the piped in music in situationally appropriate times. You cannot use 7NA every single TO, but it should have been used more often than a called TO before a Ryan Manual free throw with a couple minutes left in the game.

Just to throw my two cents in I actually think the game presentation is only a little bit off. So it's off and needs to be fixed but it's not off by much so it should be really simple to fix. The biggest thing is the timing on them is off (and poor situational awareness) First, for the TV time outs which are about 3-4 minutes long, the band should play right when they happen for about 30 seconds or you can do your on court promo then you should play a high energy song for at least a full minute to get the crowd back assuming SMU is on defense. For, timeouts called by the other team because we are on a run, it needs to be no promos and 7NA or jock james or "turned down for what" played for the entire time out.

Well, this is untrue about Duke. Again, selective memory. The first tv time out is always Wipe Out played by the band. It was that way 20 years ago when I was there, and it still is. The trombones do a thing where the Blue Devil rides a surfboard over rolling trombones. Blues Brothers and Devil with a Blue Dress are still staples during TOs. The piped in music is just done better, with better game awareness there. Duke Band still plays spirit songs and other stuff. What they don't have at Duke is the ad nauseum advertisements and promos, or if they have advertisements, they are read at the same time the band is playing.

Get rid of all of the minor league T.O. Promotion crap!!!! They are momentum killers. There is nothing worse when, SMU making a big run followed by a TO by the opponents, then some stupid asinine FT shooting contest promotion for a [deleted] pizza or whatever.
Hey SMU! You don't need that crap. Find another way to generate your income advertising without sucking the life out of MOODY!
GO MUSTANGS!
