SMU is very focused on revenue and cutting costs these days (see Bain project, Moody Reseat, etc)
MK on the court, SMU in NCAA Tourney = revenue, Significant exposure.
It is purely a business decision for the University. It is in the best interest of SMU to make sure he is back on the court. MK on the court would also be in the best interest of the student athlete, who is pursuing a career in the NBA. It is worth millions to MK.
Yes - he needs to do the work. But SMU better be sure that the end result is in the best interest of both the University and the student athlete.
