I think the guy is a big asset-people downplay his accomplishments but schools like UT, Illinois, Oklahoma St. and Kansas and coaches like Larry Brown, Bill Self, Eddie Sutton, Jack Hartman, Lon Kruger don't hire chimps for assistants

LB wouldn't have come here without Jank by his side, don't forget.

Stallion, that's good to know. I was unaware that LB allowed him to devise game plans for big games. Shows he has a lot of faith in him and that bodes well for the future.

and no smusic, i don't hate Janks. I was just wondering why all of a sudden people had started talking as if he was the sole reason for our defensive success when LB himself is a coach that predicates everything on D.

Generally assistants are in charge of scouting and creating game plans for specific opponents.

LB: "Jank, how should we defend this game considering what you have seen in your scouting efforts?"

RoboJank: "Cover them like tuna on rice."

It is not a great secret that Jank has been in charge of the defense game plans that caused Nance and many others to appear to be very ordinary players. He has done a great job for SMU. Larry has said that Jank does the defense and he (Larry) does the offense. Very good assistants that will take a less public role on the team are hugely important. We are very fortunate to have him.

Of course I'm sure LB sets the defensive philosophy and has told veto power over any suggested defensive plans. For instance I'm sure there is a directive that we will almost never play zone and that at a minimum we will flash switches on ball screens.

I thought Coach Brown pretty much handled the defense.

I believe we hired Coach Brown before Coach Jank. And that Orsini and others kind of forced the Jank thing as coach in waiting to have insurance in case Coach Brown left.

Jank is a very capable assistant, but he's massively overpaid given his role. I'm not a fan of him being the HCIW either.

Makes me nervous when LB starts singing his praises too much also, like he is about to pass a baton and he wants to build up his buddy.

Don't remember it that way but I wasn't privy to the inside. I thought LB hand picked Jank and made us put the HCIW title on him along with HC type pay.

I feel very comfortable knowing that Jank will be the guy after LB.
