TCU is in the Big 12, has a fresh head coach in Trent Johnson, is undergoing a $72,500,000 renovation to Daniel Meyer Coliseum and is SMU's natural cross-town rival.
Using some of the logic found in this thread, TCU should drop SMU in football.

I don't think TCU is a rival in basketball imo.

Last year we were 9th in non-conf strength of schedule. As skyscraper (most recently as I type this) and others have said we do not know if this game is taking the place of a good team or a bad team so it is impossible to know the RPI impact at this point. Why do you assume it is taking the place of an Arkansas or other good team instead of a Monmouth or Lamar?

Thankfully, I think there are only a few people who believe we shouldn't play TCU. Its funny how we let two years of moderate success go to our head. Hopefully we continue to play each other in all sports, as success tends to be cyclical.

It will look good for us at the time as TCU will be 7-0 due to their weak-aass OOC cupcake schedule up to that point. But, by the end of the season, it will look no better than a win over our lesser OOC games.

I say schedule Notre Dame so that Nic can have a true homecoming. I.U. was not a homecoming.

TCU is a rival...period. We should be playing them every year in as many sports as possible.

I'm not sure who you mean by "you guys?" For a 100 years the two very similar schools separated by 30 miles have played each other yearly in most sports, pulled students from the same pool of applicants and until the past ten years in football, the schools have had similar success in athletics. Walk up to any TCU grad and ask them what they think of SMU. It won't be positive. Wear SMU gear in FW or near the TCU campus and see what kind of comments you get. But maybe you get a better feel for that Where you're at?
I don't buy it, I went to SMU. I have no love for TCU, but don't spend a minute thinking about them and if you read their boards, they aren't exactly dominated by SMU talk. Terps despise Dook w/the deepest passion, doesn't make them a rival. They could care less about Maryland etc

I would love that. Have we ever played ND in hoops?

Well, you only get so many OOC chances and between TCU, that crap LV tourney, Yale and the obvious cupcakes, we had better load up w/what's remaining

mustangxc wrote:hoopmanx wrote:LOL, the answers in this thread are pretty funny. You don't compare a crap power conference team w/scheduling Lamar or UIC, that's not how schedules are made. The only swap out that makes any sense is Wyoming. TCU doesn't help us replace Indiana or Ark. So, if this is our Wyoming, maybe. The tourney we are in Vegas wreaks too. We need 2 or 3 additional heavy hiters
hoopmanx wrote:Stallion wrote:OK how many students would rather see SMU play TCU or Wyoming how many players would rather play TCU or Wyoming how many alumni would rather see SMU play TCU or Wyoming
Don't care... Players could care less about TCU Alumni should want to watch the best possible match-ups for the program
You laugh at the suggestion that TCU is a swap out for UIC, Monmouth, and Lamar yet you later say that alumni should want the best possible match ups for the program. I will say it again, give me TCU in place of the latter mentioned teams and I will be very happy with the schedule because I do want the strongest possible schedule and have no issue with scheduling an rpi top 150 team that happens to be our strongest natural rival.
Alumni should want the best possible match-ups, but you obviously schedule cupcakes, which is what those are. TCU is more like Wyoming. I want better than a perennial cellar dwellar that doesn't care about hoops. We need more elite non-conference games. IF TCU replaces Wyoming and the meat is still coming, cool, thats a push. IF TCU is part of the meat, that blows
