Was something else going on last nite-the Cheerleaders didn't even bother show last nite did they?

Re: Students

All of these discussions are irrelevant until the athletic dept gets rid of this utterly ridiculous point system. I complained to my ticket rep when purchasing my football tickets and again with my bball tickets. Nothing happens. Ny ticket rep said he agreed. But complaining does nothing. Athletic department is tone deaf per usual.

If I had to guess, and someone might have said this, and FYI it's a lame excuse, but this wasn't a big match up. Heck look at the score, I mean I got pure enjoyment watching our team rip them to shreds but definitely wasn't a glue-to-your-seat kind of game. Hopefully they can figure something out because I'm sure Larry was a part of the equation for fan attendance.

Lastly, I wasn't really paying attention to the fans but I had no idea it was a bad turnout from the TV.

The student sections actually filled in by midway first half. Same as rest of Moody. I'm not sure what people were expecting for a no name opponent.

Instead of talking to your ticket rep who is a recent graduate of another university and an employee of a contractor, have you written a thoughtful email to Rick Hart or another senior administrator expressing your concerns? If so, please let us know the response you received. If not, you have been ineffective in expressing your concern.

How much of this has to do with the opponent? Ecu isn't a team we are interested in. It seems as though we only really have interest in Houston, UConn, Cinci and maybe Memphis and Tulsa.

I think we can all agree that when Cincy comes here and if the attendance isn't throw the roof then there's a concern. Does the team deserve a full house every home game sure but we have to manage expectations. I'm also glad that the ex-president came to a game that was predicted to be a blow out, he's a true fan. Hopefully one day our fan base will get to that point but we got to get far in the tourney and make the tourney every time.

This is a reasonable response. However, as a former member of the board of directors of the mustang club, I have a wide variety of avenues to express views to the relevant persons. I have seen little to no movement on the asinine student point system for years and don't expect one. Until a change is made and we stop impeding our most vocal student fans, expect the usual collection of bottom rung sororities girls and goofballs staring aimlessly into the rafters.

Ah The Mythical Frat Daddy Super-Fan

I know most of these guys-I was one for all 4 years- in the best fraternity-they show up to look cool at a game when its the "Big deal' and that's about all-next week something else is cooler-they ain't particularly great fans after graduation either. I'm not convinced that being part of a fraternity has any correlation to being a better long term supporter of the SMU athletic program. I know very few from my Time Period that are even Season Ticket Holders-and that includes the 20-30 Football players who were members of my fraternity

I never mentioned fraternities. I said unimpeded access for our most passionate fans. Period. No womens volleyball games connected to attending a basketball game. I was not in a fraternity btw.

You are not correct. They are processed by employees of the Legends Group. That is why my ticket rep team transferred to ND a couple of years ago. Please see the following:

However, even if you were correct, that does not change the fact that the quoted poster is ineffectively lodging his concern.

Since you are not shy about revealing your employment with the athletic department, may I ask a question?

What is the athletic department's view on the student turnout and atmosphere as compared to before/after the point system was created? We're all ears.

Also...the same mover and shakers who populated the board while I served are still around. If speaking with them is "ineffective" then I'm beating a dead horse, as opposed to sending a nice letter to the AD.

I'll bite.

Point system 2014-2017. Awful student attendance besides a few big games. Subdued. Boring. Empty student sections.

No point system 2013-2014. Some of the most raucous crowds we've seen in Moody. Fraternities filled each end of the court and even some of the upper sections like 214A that used to be designated for students (now it's not bc they can't fill it). We used to complain that the fraternity guys wouldn't wear red, white or blue but would instead wear their letters. Little did we know, that was the least of our worries.

It's plain and simple. Rules changed, atmosphere changed. The facts are there. Complain all you want about fraternities, but they bring the heat and make fools of themselves which we need badly.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I am not with the athletic department. When I have a question or concern, I ask folks in the department about it rather than ranting on a message board.

I have no idea what the athletic department's views are on student turnout as I have not asked. May I suggest you do so, and let us know?

Also, if you are so connected why did you lead your original post with a statement that you talked to your ticket rep about your concern? That does not sound like someone who is well connected.
