There was zero plan 10 to 20 years ago. That's why we are in the position we are in now. For the last several years (I'd say 7 years) SMU has made tremendous strides in changing its academic requirements for athletes, tutoring support, recruiting budget, capital projects, etc. all for athletics. The powers that be (including RGT) know that the realignment game is about to come to an end. There is no denying that we have a plan now with Larry Brown and Chad Morris. We are going to give this thing one last, and for the first effing time, REAL CHANCE to be great. There are no excuses left that are valid. SMU knows that its P5 or bust. And that goes for everything. Do you honestly think we can be some kind of basketball powerhouse in the heart of diehard football country? What conference do you think we could realistically join without a football program? Everything hinges on P5. Everything.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Maybe the old big east? If we just wanted to be a basketball school that would be an ok place for use to be.

This, in my opinion, is basically saying we don't have time for the single most important thing in building a successful athletic department: gaining and fostering a strong fan base. I'm not saying that a single messy basketball re-seating is going to destroy the fan base; it just concerns me because it seems to be a move in the completely wrong direction. (Especially since our fan base is so weak to begin with...) StallionsModelT wrote:Like Coach Morris said, its got to start with a culture change.
And I agree 100%. Something needs to change. I think I just disagree with the athletic department about what that is...

Section F,
I agree with you that its probably short-sided. That's part of my rationale that its going to take some unorthodox practices to get some cash pumping into this thing.
In 5 years if we are all kicked back and enjoying some ACC/SEC/PAC football and basketball we can all look back on this and laugh. If it doesn't work well you can't say we didn't try.

No disagreement here. I can see SMU's position, even if don't agree with their actions. Let's just hope this all works itself out.

so smu wants to make another 1 million bucks next year. that would be 1,000,000/7,000=$143 per person. i would pay that amount. why don't they charge that and leave this reseating nonsense alone?

All this is just an unfortunate series of events.... BE money looked pretty good...well, sorry - no BE. Ok we have Lou and other good schools...sorry, no Lou. Ok, we have Mudiay....sorry, no Mudiay....then no MK. A lot of other recruits said "no thanks". Tough luck, Peruna's Law. When's the next game so I can enjoy the present and my seats I have now

Leave it to SMU to completely F up the one good thing we have going.
Here is what this policy says:
Jumped on the bandwagon the second we hired Larry Brown? Screw you, you lose your seats. Graduated in the past few years but bought season tickets as soon as you graduated? Screw you, you lose your seats. Are you just a regular person who has Had season tickets longer than 4 years? You can keep your seats, just take out a second mortgage to do so. Are you our one fan from the greater Dallas area that despite having no affiliation with SMU has supported us through thick and thin? Thanks for that support, now we are going to gouge the crap out of you. Did you make each and every trip to Garland last year? Thanks for your loyalty...in return, you get ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Do you also support the horrible SMU football program? Fantastic, but your football donation is completely meaningless in helping you get any basketball seats.
Bump. No one has said anything on here that contradicts any of this so I have to believe that this is how it is.

Nobody knows what is going on yet. Why don't we wait until something is announced. A novel idea for Ponyfans but perhaps prudent in this instance.

I think the meeting yesterday gave us a pretty good idea actually, but I'll agree that we should probably all relax a little until the full details are made available next week.

Back in the 80's SMU has a football promoiton called "corner stone progam" where if you would commit to five years as a season ticket holder you could get your seats forever. I feel for it and was hosed after the fifth year. Did not go to SMU Football or Basketball for over 20 years. Bought season tickets to football and basketball in 2005 and went to every home game.
Looks like its happening again and I won't be back for another 20 years.

I think MRydel is right. I will support SMU no matter what, but let's not put the cart before the horse and wait for the announcement. For some reason, I don't think it's unreasonable that the donors (which some buildings bear their name, specifically) should get the option to buy the best seats in the house...That brings a ton of money to the program. I looked at the price sheet and will be able to make it in the upper section, and as long as I am in Moody I will be happy. I am thankful to have the donors we have that fund our athletics/school and keep us moving in the right direction. Thank the Sewells, Fords, Loyds, Crums, Millers, etc. for their continued support and belief of SMU. The school is indeed trying to survive and compete at a P5 level, and they will have as much money as I can donate to them. I hope people here aren't seriously considering dropping their football tickets or basketball since we are entering a new era of SMU sports that I did not have a chance to experience while in school. HCCM and HCLB in the same school? I am ecstatic!

If you currently have season tickets, you will have a right to purchase tickets. You will not be run off the building. I think that is fair, and if we want better seats than what we have, we need to pony up the cash like the people that want the better seats will most likely do.

I'm in 209 second row from the top. Just wanted to make sure I am reading this correctly. My 4 tickets will go from $720 ($180/per ticket) to $2000 ($250+$250donation per seat). Is this correct?
