In fairness, OBF, the per seat minimum donation is meant to discourage people (including ticket brokers) from stockpiling seats they don't use. I honestly see SMU's point there, was prepared to pay essentially 4 times more than my obligation (but not my full donation -- based on what I was giving, I am having to double my donation to get bball tickets), and did not think the increase was disproportionate to value of my seat.
My big problem with this whole thing is that my Mustang Club donation does not count across the board. It punishes people who hold both basketball and football season tickets. So now in addition to the increase I have to pay for basketball, I have to pay again for football to keep the seats I've had since Ford opened. I'm a sucker, so I will probably do it anyway, but the reality is that this canibalizes football season ticket donations for basketball season ticket donations. I know many that will drop or eliminate their football ticket donation because regardless of how good we get, there is and will always be enough inventory in football tickets to get in, and for many games you can move freely as well. Some of this effect will be masked by the timing of Chad Morris, but make no mistake that this move doesn't result in all new money for fundraising, but just moves it from one place to the other.
I was told that there is a waiting list for football season tickets in all of the "premium sections" -- basically the shady home side. So what they are counting on is for the people that give up their seats in 103, for example, to be replaced by the hoards waiting to sit in those seats. I'll believe it when I see it.
