Could be mistaken. But, it may have been before that. SMU joined CUSA in 2004, and I don't believe won a CUSA Tournament game.

The positive spin comes in that we are now 11-12 seed range, which gives you a better chance at the sweet 16

You didn't know, you just guessed. This is nothing to smile about. Houston gave us a tough game every time we have played them so this would not be considered a super bad loss that would keep us out of the tournament.
