hey all I'm saying is what a Coach "claims" is passing out some lunch money might not be too far off from Dave Smith handing out $20 for fumbles and interceptions. Was it hamburgers in Tubbs presence or was it something more akin to a slush fund of unrestricted cash where Tubbs said Bamba you're looking a little thin-here's a $20-go buy yourself some lunch which was repeated on numerous occassions. I don't believe we are arguing over hamburger because it would constitute a breach of his Employment Contract by the university to fire him for such a small violation.

No matter what Tubbs said, it isn't hamburgers. More importantly it wasn't an alum setting him up.

Better to stop a rogue program in the bud, than let it become one. Perhaps Tubbs just got a dose of reality between a Big 12 program "just cutting the corners" and the rest of us for which the NCAA would call a major violation.

So here are the replacement categories:

No way in hell: Bliss, Snyder

Grandpa can you help us out: Cremmins, Franschilla, Sutton (Sr.), John Thompson, Sr.

Reclamation projects: Jarvis, Richardson, Gillen, Bill Walton

Current coaches: Ruland, Evans, Gonzaga coach, Calipari (just to tick off any Memphis fans reading this), Neil Dougherty (TCU would thank us), any MVC coach, ORU coach, UNCW coach.

Assistant Coaches: From any big program: UT, LSU, Duke, UNC, GT, Clemson, WV, Marquette, Villanova, U Conn.

Who can hit the ground running?

Clemson? Anyway, we'll hire a has been or a complete flyer from somewhere on the east coast or midwest, they will come in here, flail around for two years and realize we dont have the support or facilities it takes to succeed. This is gonna be comedic. Just watch.

Maybe the DISD coaches will "get behind" on of the candidates again.

I'm sure they are losing interest just like the rest of us. SMU will be a non-entity again. We will get no consideration from any blue chip anywhere. I cant wait for the flavor of the day assistant from Michigan State or West Virginia to come in here and make a difference. Yea right.

I'm sure we'll all be talking about this guy and that guy and instead some wonder worker assistant from the Iowa School for the Deaf will get hired with great hype and fanfare. No reputable coach will come here unless it turns out that Tubbs was involved in substantial NCAA violations (not soap, not burgers, not practices, not telephone calls). Part of me hopes there were serious recruiting violations and part of me wants there to be no such violations just to see where Orsini will go dumpster diving.

The article says an SMU coach can be fired without pay for knowingly violating NCAA rules. Tubbs knew this. Anyone who has ever coached at the college level will tell you that the rules about when you can contact a recruit and how many hours you can practice per week are so basic. It would be utterly impossible to for Tubbs to plead ignorance to these rules. He knew them, and it looks like he went ahead and violated them anyway. I mean I've been a fan of Tubbs, and I wanted him to succeed, but at best, it just seems really, really dumb.

you can find minor stuff anywhere you look. I'm sure tubbs is not a perfect angel, and this is not a business of angels.

Right you are HF, it is laughable but certainly not funny.

To those of you saying this is more than burgers and detergent, why are we buying him out instead of firing him for violations?
The University is not going to fire Tubbs over hamburgers and laundry detergent. There is obviously something more to the story than we have been told.
.
Swell. As soon as you find out what that something else actually is, be sure and let the rest of us know. From what I've been able to find out, something else doesnt exist, there's not even an allegation of "something else." When you find out, let the rest of us know.

The things I've said on here are what I've been able to find out, and it summarizes like this:

Max Williams allegations turned out to be nothing.

Once the NCAA investigation began, the NCAA contacted every current player and every player we've offered a scholarship to over the last 3 years, to see if any SMU coaches made excessive contact, or contact ouside of the allowable time periods. Nothing found. Thats as of the day before yesterday, but Calvin Watson was in Copelands office yesterday, if there was more I think they would have told the DMN, then.

When the NCAA talked to the players, a few said they thought practice might have gone on too long, sometimes. No way to substantiate or document this, though, its just somebodies feeling.

End of story.

As soon as anyone discovers what "something else" actually entails, I'd like to hear about it.

Thats right. So, is Jimmy being fired without pay, or is SMU buying out his contract?

No kidding, I'll bet friarwolf will be leading the parade down Bishop Boulevard tomorrow....

I guess we will find out the answer to my question about who can come in now and do a better job than Tubbs. I suspect it's "nobody"-we'll probably attact a spare coach who just doesn't do any worse.

Leading the parade, huh? Yeah jt, I am just tickled pink over this entire thing. Our university is dragged through the mud - again - because an idiot entrusted to run a clean program committed NCAA violations. An idiot who knew about our past and who had language inserted into his contract stating that he had to run a clean program or else. And what does he do? He allows stupid infractions to occur. And by the way, it is much more than just a hamburger.

But you know what? It doesn't matter if it was just a hamburger. It was a violation and he knew the consequences. What is SMU supposed to do? Spank his peepee, tell him no, no, no and then hope he doesn't do something else? Now that would be smart wouldn't it? Let's see. He's under a cloud because of what went on at OU, he has infractions committed here, hmmmmmmm...... No, let's trust him to be a good boy and besides, the south dallas coaches will be mad at us and he's the best we can do, and no one else will come here.......That koolaide must be powerful stuff, jt. Didn't mommy tell you too much of anything is not good for you. Good luck in detox.......

While I am on a roll...........Copeland created this mess so he should be the one to clean it up. Not the new ad. Pariah in South Dallas? Who cares????? Anybody want to guess who many kids from north carolina are on the roster for Duke? Want to guess what is the largest number of kids on Duke's roster the last five years were from North Carolina???? We need to get talent from wherever. I hope the new ad doesn't listen to those whispers that we have to hire someone with local "ties" to south dallas. Go hire a good coach and let him find players wherever.....

And hoop, show some restraint man. The chicken little act is not becoming of you. It's gonna be ok.....................
