Suitable for October 31 only. That is hideous.

There are two main issues here...
1) he was SUPPOSEDLY told that SMU would not recruit another point guard to this recruiting class, and once they signed a top 10 PG he got upset
2) Former assistant coach Lance Irvin was one of the main recruiters. He is now the assistant at Southern Illinois.
But either way, if he never got something in writing about another PG not being recruited it doesn't matter, all that means is he will have to work to get better to get playing time, and there is nothing wrong with that.
If SMU lets him out of his NLI it will set a bad precedent. At this point I don't think SMU looks bad, I think he looks bad for wanting out because he might have competition to get on the court.
But don't expect to see him on the Hilltop in a Mustangs uniform...

why was it necessary to "release" him if the NLI was voided by not sending in the transcript? Oh, and now daddy's playing nice.
If I read the rules correctly, by not sending in his transcript, Dubois could not be admitted but it did not dissolve the effect of the NLI. Only if we refused to admit him after he had made the submission of transcript would that have happened. He still needed the release from us.

I'm sure PonyDoh and XTC will be so relieved. Whew!! The manufactured comments by Doherty and DuBois' papa are smoothing over what I would guess were some tense times. Now, Doherty can continue his enslavement with the AAU MAFIA!! Gee, isn't he lucky!!
That's the last thing I'm going to say about this.

I agree with you on that Mrydel but XtC seems to think differently. He stated on another thread:
It's not Doh's decision to make anymore. Dubois didnt send in his final high school transcripts, so his application for admission was denied. He has to be released now.
I guess it was Doh's decision to make. Get the picture, XtC?
When will I start feeling stimulated??

SMU recruit released from letter of intent
11:05 PM CDT on Thursday, July 10, 2008
SMU men's basketball recruit Jarred DuBois has been officially released from his national letter of intent and will be free to accept a scholarship to another school.
DuBois' father, Gary, said the release was granted Thursday, ending an impasse between SMU and the DuBois family.
"We have come to a mutual decision that it is best for J.D. that we find another place for him to further his career as a student-athlete," SMU coach Matt Doherty wrote on his blog. "J.D. is a terrific young man with a bright future. I offered my assistance in helping him in any way possible."
DuBois, a 6-3 guard from Los Angeles, lost an appeal in June before a national letter of intent committee. At the time, Gary DuBois said his son would not be attending SMU, regardless.
"It's a relief," Gary DuBois said. "I'm sorry it happened the way it happened. I have a lot of respect for Matt Doherty and for the SMU program. I appreciate him giving Jarred a chance to continue his basketball career."

I will always defer to XTC on the rules of the games. He is very well versed in all rules. I still think I interpret it correctly. I think what XTC was saying was that Dubois would not be coming under any circumstance since he made the decision to not send in his transcript, thus he could not be forced into coming to SMU.

im never going to get over the "commitment" part of signing your name to what is essentially a contract agreement...he signed, and while a precedent has been set that makes releases an all too often occurrence it still bothers me deeply that this young man and his father, especially, valued their words as men with such little regard...i would never trust them first if i ever had any dealings with them.
