just home from a very winnable game. No baskets for over 12 minutes and numerous unforced errors, end of story. This is getting old!

I'm having a real hard time trying to figure out Ryan Harps 22 minutes and 2 points.

Just back as well, what a shame the way the whole thing imploded at the 10:39 mark with SMU up 43-41, we then go forever and a day without a basket and slightly shorter with some points. Funny thing is, that is right when Doherty made his under 12 subs of Harp and the other Buzz Killers. I am sorry, but Harp is an offensive Pariah, the whole thing goes flat when he is in there.

Even though I hate Penders, Doherty needs to take a cue from him on subbing, Houston relies on their 5 starters to win games for them, they only go to the bench for foul trouble and quick rests, they get 0 production from their bench but still do good, We need that same mentality, leave a starter out there, don't yank him for making a mistake or because you wanna see someone else for the sake of seeing someone else.

Nice Defense tonight, ultimately McCoy and Williams both were off, so probably would not have won anyway....We need to learn to finish games like these.

I have to agree. Doherty's sub pattern continues to baffle. Nyakundi misses a couple of shots and commits a couple of TOs and ends up with 12 minutes?? Doherty definitely doesn't instill confidence in these guys.

His defense was mostly good against Coleman, but he still went for 20 and his lack of offense is just not worth having him out there that much. SMU as a team plays pretty good defense and they were challenging shots really well for the night....We just can't avoid that "cold" streak in a big game.

What happened to Mike Walker? He looked really good in the first half and then barely saw the floor in the second half. And why did we start Ryan Harp?

Was strictly for defense against Coleman, one of the best players in the conference. and Walker did look good, would have liked to have seen more, but you run into the problem that he cannot handle the ball as well as McCoy or Williams and Houston was doing lots of trapping. I would have loved to have seen the three gaurd look of Williams, McCoy and Walker.

Walker was a guard in HS & Prep School. Walker was a guard who saw alot of action last year. Walker is the 3rd guard in the rotation.
If u are 6'0 & can't handle the ball what the heck are you doing on a D1 basketball team.
I like Walker but maybe someone should get in his ear to start practicing handling the rock as much or more as you practice shooting 3's after practice.
No excuse that Doh has a guard that can't handle the rock.

You are giving him way too much credit for his defense. He plays hard and gives it his all, but its not like he is some incredible defender. He had tread marks all over his [deleted] tonight.

Heh, I wanna give the poor kid credit for something, but you are right, it was not lights out defense, I still see the cringe that me and my wife shared when he came in at the 10:39 mark, it was like death had entered the court.

Oh and one other observation, those refs stunk!

Had no affect on the outcome, and it was bad both ways, but that was a some crappy officiating for most of the night.

They owe me a bag of cough drops for my sore throat from having to yell at them so much.

Team MVP ?

Hi Stangs,

New guy here. I been reading the board and watching the team since Doherty came on board. I like BB stats and just wanted to throw a few thoughts about the room and see what kinda comments I get in return.
It looks as if the stats are saying 8 turnovers and 7-27 shooting for Williams, McCoy, and Faye corralled the ponies tonight. Bamba had a strong game, had a block or two, but had four turnovers himself. In Faye's defense, he had a great night on the boards. The TO's just killed us tonight. Any one agree?

I watched the Memphis game also, and feel that these guys have begun to gel in the games that followed UCF. Cut the TO's in half in the Memphis and tonight's game we may have won both games.
Looking at the season stats and the message board here, McCoy has been the highlight of both , but I think that Williams has been the glue that has allowed others to shine. His stats are solid, never seems to have a bad night (perhaps tonight was that night) , and plays good "D" with assists regularly. I think without him in the lineup, everyone would have been looking to McCoy to carry most of the load. The lack of pressure on McCoy that his presence allows has really allowed McCoy (and to an extent others also) to focus on other tasks during the game. Between McCoy , Williams, and Faye - do we have a team MVP ? I throw Faye in the mix because he has been a leader through his maturity, his contributions to the team have proved beneficial at several points in close games, and he changes how other teams defend against us at the offensive end because of his ability to handle the ball and shoot the trey as a big man in the style of Larry Bird. Doh seems to be using that ability to his advantage by drawing out the others teams' big men in the same way that Bill Laimbier (sp?) was used with the Detroit Pistons during their reign in the NBA years ago. The difference being that Faye is capable of taking the ball to the rack from out front. I really like the fact the Doh got him to SMU, that is a hard match up for most teams.

That's all today. Hope to here from the crowd soon.

Welcome to the boards Z, don't mind Papa, thats my fault I put him in an onery mood.

Faye did have a great night on the boards and Williams, Faye and McCoy can be a strong nucleus, they just need to find some consistency.

/cheers
