I thought Doh should have been canned at the end of last season & I've seen nothing this season to really change my mind. Even though the record is better, its still a losing record. Its all about W's & L's with me & too many L's for the 4th straight season under Doh's leadership.
If he does stay & they turn it around in his 5th season. Great, its about time. But if he losses again in year 5, what a waste of time. Look for a cream puff schedule if he stays. Won't we all be excited to beat Paul Quinn, Dallas Baptist, Texas A&M Commerce, Houston Baptist & any other dog Steve O & Doh can find to put on the schedule.
Its time for a real D1 mens basketball program & that starts with a new HC.

DITTO! A 5th year will be more of the same...including the lame excuses that we have all heard for the past four years. "Never mistake mere activity for learning."

"great progress is on the h o r i z o n" ? WTF does that mean? Where, exactly, is the horizon; and how long does it take to get there? Just curious.

Its no longer a question of "if he stays". He's staying, unless Arkansas fires their coaching staff. But the schedule is supposed to be stronger next year, more competitive and more fiscally responsible. Basketball lost a boatload of money this year, and next year something has to be done to sell tickets and put some butts in the seats. Thats a mandate from on high, the schedule has to be improved.

If they want to sell tickets and put butts in the seats then they need to get a coach who can win. What is more expensive- empty seats at Moody for bball games or paying off the remaining one year on doh's contract?

I expect that JJ will have many more people buying fball tickets than did last year and the year before. Why? because he is putting a winning product on the field.

GO PONIES!!!

Why so much interest in Pelphrey?

Let's hope the schedule improves dramatically. So sick of NAIA teams and two game runs vs Texas St etc.

Just for the record, another D-1 coach who has taken 8 years to get to the post season and to the NCAA Dance is Woffords HC Mike Young, who has turned the corner from 6 losing seasons to 16-14 last year to a 26-8 record in 2009-2010. They won the Southern Conference last night over Appalachian State for their first ever NCAA Tournament berth. It was the biggest athletic event ever for Wofford.

Are you saying that SMU should be content to lose for several more years and only evaluate the coaching staff after eight years?

Such stories are rare, and that is why they are circulated. If the length of one's coaching tenure were the only factor in creating a successful program then SMU would have had success in both football and basketball long ago. SMU attempted to have patience in football, and even then only made a bowl game after hiring a successful, proven coach. It is incredible that the same school that lost for years under the leadership of "rebuilding" coaches in one sport can continue to sing their praises in another.

Why so much interest in Pelphrey?

I might be wrong but I think the interest would be Evans due to his ties to Turner.

so we are going to improve the schedule next year. logic which is a foreign concept to most of you would dictate that tougher teams means more losses for dear old smu. we can't break 500 with cupcakes. good luck with that improved schedule.

Flawed logic

Our team this year vs. Tougher Schedule would have more losses
Our team next year vs. Tougher Schedule could be fewer losses...depends on how much the newcomers contribute and if we get a PG.
