CUSA bumps up to a 2 or 3 bid league soon, IMO. MWC is making it's move now.
Agreed on that. JHub - I am aware of what you have done vs. CUSA teams since 2006...I just don't think that UNT could do it night-in, night-out. Don't get me wrong, I like your league (and have followed it closely due to South Alabama coach Ronnie Arrow who is a personal aquaintance)...it's just not CUSA. No doubt that UNT is slightly better than SMU in hoops right now...but don't for a second think that UNT would finish higher than the middle of the pack in CUSA.

Nobody said the Belt was CUSA. UNT would however, fare better than and be much more the competetive than the Mustangs based on the difference in quality and quantity of team talents. Mustangs would have difficulty finishing in the middle of the pack in the Belt.

Look at all these North Texas players who went to high school or JUCO in Texas. Its at least worth noting for the discussion that Johnnie Jones has focused on Texas players and achieved much better results (in RPI, victories etc) than Doherty who has had very little success in Texas. One thing about recruiting locally is that when you're successful you can get some local momentum-that's what Dement/Tubbs were able to do-once you get the local kids they recruit the next classes themselves. When you recruit nationally, you are basically starting from scratch with each class because its unlikely you are going to get another one in coming years from that school or area. http://www.meangreensports.com/SportSel ... em_id=1800
"With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.

How would these guys rank against CUSA recruiting and play? I haven't seen any UNT games nor know anything about their coach. What is his story? I don't care if they are in the Belt, going to the dance is a nice feeling. Hell, didn't UTA go 2 years ago?

to comment on the article itself. I think it's easy for him to sit back and type away with these comments yet have no basis or anything to back up his statements. I don't care if it was Coach K - I think it would be difficult to coach here and recruit.
I wonder when the last time he actually talked to Doherty or stepped foot in Moody or Daniel Meyer.
JJT is a hack - especially on Cowboys coverage.

Hack or not he is correct. SMU basketball is completely irrelevant and a bad, bad joke. What a depressing performance tonight

From a DRC article. Success breeds success for the Mean Green. The other two major universities in Dallas-Fort Worth, TCU and SMU, are in the midst of long NCAA tournament droughts (TCU last made the field in 1998 and SMU in 1993), while UNT has thrived over the last four seasons. “Our deal is we don’t concentrate on the SMUs and TCUs, but we want to concentrate on some of the top kids in the area who might be looking at Texas and Oklahoma and Texas Tech or Baylor, or whoever, and we’re hopeful that at some point we can get those kids to take a really good strong look at us and understand they can get to the [NCAA] tournament from here,†Jones said.
