One would think driving through would be a joy, It's the stopping that gets under folks' skin.

Then you should love us. Without Arkansas look how far the drive would be to get to where you are going.

I have lived in New York, Illinois, Michigan, Tennessee (twice), Nebraska, Texas, and Arkansas. I am very happy here. Do hope to do Texas again in this lifetime.

I sincerely apologize to all for offending those whose sensibilities were vilely accosted about comments concerning ugly women, rude crass people and a region they has been dying for over a generation (our B school dean predicted this back in the 60s and it is now reality, not theory).

Some of us forgot for a moment that the purpose of this board is to nonstop bash relentlessly our football coach, our football players and our football recruits.

Hey country redneck hick from Arkansas: many SMU alums have lived in the northeast like myself and loved the place. I love the Hartford area personally and have lived in Boston and NYC.

U could not pay me enough money in the world to live in countrified redneck uneducated ARKansas. Double my salary and I still would not go to that desolate cultural wasteland where u reside. Lots of crass rude uneducated rif raff in your sorry excuse for a state.

Get a grip man before you start posting your drivel about another region of the country.

Actually...it's driving through it that sucks most. I-40 is hell on an Airstream trailer. I've got nothing against the state or it's people. Just fix the damn road please.

We have worked hard to earn the #1 ranking of worst roads in America. Also #1 in orange barrels.

Sad thread, too many people with too much time on their hands and I hope our new-found success in bball doesn't make some of our a*hol3 fans more obnoxious than they typically are. Go and enjoy Dallas or the Hill Country west of Austin, or Cape Cod or NYC, who the heck cares. Some of us stay in Dallas and some get the hell out as soon as they can. I stayed 20 yrs then left.... Bottom line is that there are all types of people, good and bad, throughout the country. Most of the rest of the planet views us all as obnoxious Americans regardless of where we live.

I was at the game, and we encountered thousands of Uconn fans over the course of the day and didn't encounter anything other than helpful and friendly people of all ages. When we come back to Dallas in the Fall each year, 95% of the SMU fans we interact with on the Boulevard are just as friendly, but there are always a few rotten apples in each bunch. Anyone that spends time outside of the bubble learns this....people are people. End of story.

It's really sad how angry people get on here. And we are supposed to be educated...at SMU no less?

How much help did you really need? From a quick Google Map and a few other searches, it doesn't look like there are more than 3 or 4 bars/restauarnts in all of Storrs, CT. Seems like a great place to go to college if the only think you're interested in is sitting in your dorm and studying or watching a movie.

Personally, I'm the complete oddball southerner that loves all the places that generally dislike southerners (except Chicago... daggun snow, ice, and -40 temperatures). I love California (more NorCal than SoCal, but I like both)... I love New York and Boston. That said, I always have to laugh when the occasional jackarse makes a comment about the south - I just point out that they can go about 40 miles outside the city and find more racism and other prejudices than they would ever see in most southern cities.

For me, I love the cities... small towns anywhere are, in my opinion, generally pretty backwards.

Ponyte, I was interested in your comment from your B school Dean. What did he say. I don't mean to derail but I find it interesting

His PhD thesis was on the decline of the NE as an economic center and the migration of that economic power to the South. It wasn't long after he completed his thesis that he moved to the South and pretty much stayed in the South since.

He was incredibly insightful and he is the reason the Cox School is a national powerhouse.

He also does a presentation regarding why Texas is an economic power and bashes California and New York's tax laws / anti business friendly policies, id recommend listening to it if you get the chance and have interest in economics.

I have his recent slide deck if anyone wants to see it.

Key points:

- 2014 GDP ~2.7%
- in the past 10 years Tx has added more jobs than all other states combined.
- will taken another 10+ years to be at full employment.
- underemployed is still major and making unemployment look better than it is
- housing starts are still well below needed levels
- we're not educating for marketable skills (said the Dean of a biz school )

If it's so great, why did you leave?

And in all fairness, the chicks at the game were hideous. If you wish to refute that, please do.
