Re: New PricingThose prices are absurd increases. If they're anywhere near that and fans are fine with that, then lol. I don't care if it's alumni with a lot of money or recent grads, those are absurd price increases at any school. I think Duke has cheaper donor levels for good seats considering it's 5K per for lowers. And what happens when the team isn't great for a year? Every person dumps their tickets because of the ridiculous prices and a "meh" schedule.
That is not how you build a fan base to people that are loyal to you. You don't gouge them just because you can or you won't have a loyal fan base.
Re: New Pricing
I do agree the price increase is absurd, but not necessarily the prices. I will pay $1,000 for two tickets if the price increase allows me to actually have the opportunity to purchase them. Demand is sky high for season tix and not everyone in line will receive an opportunity to purchase them. I am still kicking myself for not buying tix last season. I had to pay absurd prices on Stub Hub for the Louisville game! I would much rather shell out at the beginning of the season instead of paying $600+ for 4 tickets to one big game...
Re: New Pricing
The 1500 should get a banner hanging in Moody. Kind of like the banner at the AAC for people who have held season tix since 1980. SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four
2014-15 & 2016-17 AAC Men's Basketball Champs
Re: New Pricing2014 Grad checking in. Anyone know what I'm looking at for tix for next season in the 200s? It's going to hurt if graduating means going from paying $50 for the Mob to $500 for seats in the 200s.
Re: New Pricing
SID said this was not the official pricing document. I imagine they will still cut young alumni a break. I wouldn't expect anything less than $200 a ticket (just a gut feeling, have absolutely no basis for this guess). If I recall correctly young alumni last year were $90 a ticket. Can anyone confirm? I could also see them giving young alumni a break on donation per seat. Once again, no basis for this opinion.
Re: New Pricing
I have better seats than the young alum section and prefer to sit there. My issue isn't that there aren't discounted seats for young alums, its that these increases are pretty steep for almost everyone. Going from $250 to $750 for my two seats is an absurd increase.
Re: New Pricing
At the same time, you should also reward the long term season ticket holders......if you've been buying season tickets since the early 90's, it's hard to say you've seen SMU put many "quality" teams on the court. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Peruna is my mascot!
Re: New PricingI have no problem with whatever the final pricing model is going to be. We're in a new world where loyalty does mean something but bigger revenues mean more to the existence to an athletic department. So if a day were to come where I was priced out -- I won't be here -- of paying for SMU season tickets, then that would mean the program(s) have reached exceptional competitive levels, more revenue is flowing into the coffers in its operation budget and the school may have a better fighting chance to get to the next competitive destination. That's what we all want, isn't it?
I understand there are those very upset about this. I'm sorry that you feel this way. I'm with you. But SMU has every right to strike when the iron is hot with the popularity of its sports. This is simple supply and demand economics. If you don't/won't pay it, they know somebody else will. And that's just the reality of it. You can't have it all, folks.
Re: New Pricing
Exactly. That's beyond absurd. I think I'm talking to deaf ears with some people. It's not about what people will pay RIGHT NOW, it's about what kind of fan base you will have 5 years from now. If you want Moody to look like the rest of Dallas teams in a down year, fine, go ahead and price them at ridiculous price increases, people will no doubt pay it this year. But what about next year? Or 5 years when the team isn't good? Larry won't be around for forever contrary to popular belief. And if SMU has any semblance of the rest of Dallas sports teams, the second they are less than great, the stadium will be empty and then the ticket office has to put prices at peanuts again for loyal fans to show up. But by then, they may have hurt the loyalty when they've gouged the fans in the good years. You get the money through other avenues, not tickets. Sponsorships, TV contracts, Merchandising, ect... You don't raise and drop season ticket prices based on market demand, the object is to reward your season ticket holders and make sure they stay even in the bad years, so you don't lose that revenue. You build loyalty to a brand. You don't want huge fluctuations in revenue year over year, anyone in business knows this, you want steady increasing streams. Not live fat one year and slaughter the following. People that are loyal to the brand will pay for season tickets even in the bad years which will undoubtedly come back at some point. And when they do, you hope the stadium is still full so it doesn't kill you in recruiting. My argument has ZERO to do with what they can charge, it has everything to do with a smart business model. If they were smart in the first place, tickets never would've been that cheap. They devalued a product and now are trying to make up for it. If the cheap seats had been 300 last year, they could have raised it to a 10-20% increase without people being upset.
Re: New Pricing
This mentality works well until a bad season happens and all the wheels fall off. All the johnny-come-lateys will bail as quickly as they arrive, and then we are back to where we started ... 1,000 people in the stands. Gotta take care of those who take care of you. Prices for sure need to rise, but pricing every season based off the "supply and demand" for the final home game of the NIT tournament is playing with fire. Oh yeah, and the quality of the conference is deteriorating by the day.
Re: New Pricing
Thank you! What are they trying to do with the HOF area? 1000 per seat plus 2500 donation for upper level baseline seats is bizarre. Also, count me among the crowd who would have to go from $250 to $750 in one year to keep my two 200 level seats. ![]()
