Ya, that one I understand I came to school with a laptop that was already two years old and during my senior year it caught on fire (dell). I just looked over one day and the battery was just flaming away. It made it near impossible to work in Intro the Java course. I used the library's computers every day for that course. I just think that with the low cost of other PC's it is awful that they are saying that the meadows kids have to have apple laptops. It's not like the professional dancers are making that much, I don't know what is the average salary of the meadows kids?

wouldn't a flaming computer make it damn near impossible to work in ANY course?

Apple seems to have a great school/university marketing program. My granddaughter was given one to use at PCA. Seems they furnished them to all juniors and seniors. She just left for college and they required her to have one as well.
Apparently these educators don't realize that the 'commercial' word is MS and Windows. I doubt if many companies use Apple other than perhaps adv. agencies and commercial artists/photography groups.

It was difficult, but thankfully it was near the end.

I only know of a few people who have apple computers in research and many have them configured for linux to run the machines. Actually I just got upgraded from XP to windows 7 only a couple months ago so maybe they should have students deal with horrible IT and outdated software instead of nice new machines.

Recording arts,Graphic arts, fine arts, mixed media art, advertising, marketing are all Apple heavy fields. See Meadows

Students routinely have to spend $500+ a semester on books. In that context it isn't a big deal.

All the research I've been doing is on windows or linux computers and in industry I only saw windows. Most of the equipment is set up for windows not mac.

Perhaps it is a difference in fields. Ive been doing this a long time, almost exclusively on macs.
