So the same guy says I have a point and am also full of crap. A bit confusing.

Anyhoo - sure there are exceptions, but if you look at the top few football teams and top few basketball teams you will have a very hard time finding anyone that is even remotely a student. My point is just to make sure we understand the game we are playing. If we want to play it, let's do it the way it has to be played, and agree that the marketing value for the school is worth it. But let's not try to do what nobody but maybe Stanford does, because it won't work. It is not ignorant to think that - it is naive to think otherwise.

Simply responding to what you typed, which is that anyone would be hard pressed to find any real student at a top 20 program. That's BS. I was trying to not take your comment too literal by saying there are certainly marginal cases. We'll have our share for sure. New APR standards are no joke (ask UConn).

I just meant you generally get -- and appropriately report -- legit info. Source unimportant.

My Gramps had a take like Stallions amateurism hilarity at Turkey dinner last night. Not sure which was worse, all the food showing in his mouth while he talked, or the his rants about when college was college. I love the old guy, and I recognize too much has changed in his years, but that doesn't change the fact that it's changed. SO, you either adapt to the times or you perish.

Any to answer your question, Stallion, I don't give a post pumpkin pie poop whether any of these kids can read or graduate, they are snipers. IF they want to take advantage of the school and get an education while they are there, great. If not, it's not why they were brought to SMU to begin with. Stop speaking out of both sides of your mouth, hiding behind NCAA codes and bylaws, and just admit most all these kids have no right being in college. Very few, if any in legit hoops, have a resume that even gets opened by a legit admissions department. They are fish out of water, brought to campus for once purpose, arms race. HAve the best and most weapons, you win. The more you win, the more the school gets, and the athletes unless pro's, are thrown away like 2 day old Mrs Bairds. You either provide them their worry-free showcase or you won't, that simple. IF we fall short on our promise to keep them eligible, who elite can we hope to attract?

Markus Kennedy is a kid that w/a big year had/has the potential to earn enough, to support his family, and maybe get his degree down the road. Maybe he parlays whatever earnings he made and goes all ex-athlete and gets a car dealership? WHo the eff knows, but right now SMU is hurting his earning power. How good for how long doe you expect SMU to be, if they keep shooting their kids in the foot after making promises

And yes, I love the NBA too.

I really don't care if they get educated. Give them the chance, encouragement, all the help they can ask for, yes. But at the end of they day they won't or can't take it, they can be no worse off than if they never played in college. Who is being harmed? Much bigger problems in education, like exploitative student loans or WHY not his kids are coming out of high school in bad shape.

Devil's advocate: They take away an educational opportunity for someone who is there to learn.

Reality: Of course, if everything else is equal you give the scholarship to someone who can make good us of the educational opportunity. However, the reality is that a more competitive team will generate more money to pay for scholarships for more people.

When does a shooter, or tough face-up 4, come available?

It will be interesting to see how the pending announced support for athletic academics is received by LB.

I can can guess that he'll make use of the new guidelines, if necessary. Has he been going after any recruits lately who might be categorized as academically marginal? The three signees earlier this month seemed to be pretty solid academically.
