http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/column ... career.ece HA: What’s the biggest similarity between football and basketball GameDays? RD: They are both personality driven panel shows that are influential on the day’s narratives. HA: What’s the biggest difference? RD: Rarely is there a regular season college basketball game that carries the magnitude of a regular season football game. The football shows are centered on the games of the day. The basketball show looks at the themes of the week. HA: How excited are you to be joining the football GameDay? RD: Very. I am extraordinarily eager to work on that show. It’s the pre-eminent studio show in college football. I have been in discussion with ESPN for the past year-and-a-half on what I could do to have a larger role in college football. What the show has done is establish the standard of excellence. It is something everyone admires. HA: Any idea on what your basketball show will look into before the SMU-UConn game? RD: It’s a month until selection Sunday. This game offers the juxtaposition between the program that won the national championship last year and the program that arguably received the biggest snub last year. Obviously, the rosters are different this year but it is a launching point. We are still in the working stages but we expect to talk to Larry Brown about the passing of Dean Smith and Larry’s influence on (UConn Coach) Kevin Ollie. We will talk about the job Larry has done in injecting life into SMU basketball. And yes, there are issues (NCAA investigation) but there doesn’t appear to be any significant advancement of late. ![]()
