This is not fair, Williams' Family is to blame for this

Postby J.T.supporta » Thu Apr 06, 2006 1:37 pm

First off, I am outraged at what has acumulated for Tubbs over these past few months. Give the guy a break. Once we signed him to coach here, we praised the guy. We gave him our up most support to lead our team to victories.

You want to know what really bugs me about this situation is that a RICH WHITE man and his [deleted] little grandson can get away with almost anything.

If anyone wants to know the real reason why Tubbs is going to be gone is because of the Williams family. Max Williams, former SMU baller, has power and authority, not to mention money to have Tubbs fired.

You can blame this whole Tubbs investigation on Matt Williams, the so called savior to SMU basketball, atleast that is what he thinks of himself.
Just because you thing you are hot [deleted] right out of highschool does not mean that you are guarenteed to get a starting spot just because you were all state and dropped 60 something in one HS game.

I think its unusually to see how Money is power in this world.

Tubbs has not done anything wrong.
This came from DMN:

"Tubbs, according to sources, did buy hamburgers out of his own pocket for Brian Morris and Fall. NCAA rules stipulate that an infrequent meal is permissible."

Just because you do not like the coach and you were not going to play this year does not mean you are allowed to go run off and tell your grandpa that something "fishy" is going on in the program you play for.

In my opinion, Tubbs should stay one more year. How much is a burger really? Is it a buck or is it one mans Job/Life.

If anyone really cares about Tubbs and this matter then speak up, because its unfair for a man to go through this all because someone felt as if they got a bad start to their College Sports Career.

Friar, what do you know that people like XTC dont know? Cmon share it with us, this thing is in the ditch anyway, its not like it matters. As for my chicken little act and it all being ok, keep on dreaming. Its far from going to be ok. Futhermore, I cant believe you are comparing us to Duke and Carolina now in terms of recruiting. When I pointed out how patient Duke had to be with K, you were the first to dismiss that analogy. Well, comparing recruiting is 10 times more crazy. Small, mid major, city schools like SMU need to be able to recruit their backyard to some degree. No flavor of the day assistant is going to crack the code in Dallas.

Guys, this is terrible news. This will set the SMU program back decades for our current prestigious status amongst the college basketball elite. Now all the blue chip Dallas prospects we are so accostumed to signing will no longer consider us. Our next coach will probably be some guy who isn't even the top assistant from some established program. Oh my goodness, what are we to do!?

To be honest, our program is in terrible shape right now. We went 13-16 (4-10 in conference play) in a below average conference with a pathetic non-conference schedule. We had a we already aren't in the running for top area recruits. Our current coach Jimmy Tubbs was not even the top assistant to Sampson at OU. I don't see how people can claim that our coaching search will be so difficult and so unfruitfull when they are staunch Tubbs supporters who himself was no prize. I certaintly don't think we will do any worse. Basically don't worry so much. I feel like everyone here is overstating the negative implications of this move a little too much.

Aside from my like or dislike for Tubbs, I am very curious to find out the reasoning behind all this. There must be a great deal more to the story than what we are hearing. If the firing is truely only based on detergent and burgers (which I cannot possibly believe is the case) then I would be completely against this firing. I want to hear the truth.

Sorry fellas. Not on this board. Over a beer.

Come on hoop. Don't just fire and fall back. My point is Duke doesn't get a lot of the studs from north carolina because they can't qualify. Coach K brings in kids from all over who are smart and can play. Most of the studs from south Dallas can't qualify at SMU so why do we waste our time worrying about what the south Dallas coaches think? We need to find a good coach who will play by the rules as established by SMU who can go find talented kids who want to come play here. That simple. Will it be tough? Sure. But you know what, it's Dallas, a cool campus, great looking girls, great alumni connections, a town starting to embrace hoops over pecan ball. So find the right guy who puts the right system in place and we'll all be happy. Tubbs was damaged goods from the beginning. Let's just hope all we get is a light tap on the wrist and move on. In two years, we'll have lots of scholarships....................

can't qualify? Quinton Ross, Davis, Sasser, Hancock, Isham, they qualified. Apparently George Odufuwa qualified although he didnt come. So now you want to give up on our backyard, one of the hottest areas for hs basketball in the country at the moment? How bout it being SMU that needs to change and quit being so elitist? We're not that good of a school or that good looking.

Actually, Stallion, I typed the post you did several times...and erased it many times. I appreciate the humor.

No kidding, I'll bet friarwolf will be leading the parade down Bishop Boulevard tomorrow....

I guess we will find out the answer to my question about who can come in now and do a better job than Tubbs. I suspect it's "nobody"-we'll probably attact a spare coach who just doesn't do any worse.

Leading the parade, huh? Yeah jt, I am just tickled pink over this entire thing. Our university is dragged through the mud - again - because an idiot entrusted to run a clean program committed NCAA violations. An idiot who knew about our past and who had language inserted into his contract stating that he had to run a clean program or else. And what does he do? He allows stupid infractions to occur. And by the way, it is much more than just a hamburger.

Well, insider, if you know it's "more than just a hamburger" why don't you enlighten the unwashed masses with your scoop? I for one would like to know what the hell's happening instead of all this sneaking around BS. Even if I have to hear it from a well known Tubbs basher like you.

If this is all because the Williams's wanted a new coach, what say we ask the elder to pony up the funds for someone we could never hope to get, and to sponser a few AAU teams so that we have an inside track with recruits once the Dallas HS coaches lock us out of the gym.
The donkey's name is Kiki.

On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?

More DMN blog hilarity:

Re: Detergent-gate
Hey, my alma mater may not have the cleanest athletic program around, but at least our clothes are clean.

I don't want to get on my soapbox here, but why isn't the NCAA looking into Alabama?

You can rule out #1. ESPN.com is reporting that Gonzalez is going to Seton Hall.

My point is we seem to be holding ourselves hostage (ever see the movie Blazing Saddles where Cleavon Little holds himself hostage) over the "south dallas coaches". Fine, we get the occasional player but by and large, they go elsewhere. Let's just go get players with more than just "raw skills".

And, jt my boy, I don't think you could handle the truth (another movie reference since I am sure it will go over your head).javascript:emoticon('')

the only thing keeping SMU from falling as low as the football team since the Death Penalty has been Dallas players. Otherwise, we'd be pulling up the cellar every year in BB too. We will sink and die with Dallas Metroplex talent in SMU's present environment that is unless you want to let SMU go after the same nomad JUCOs and Transfers all its opponents use.
