Agreed, hopefully he likes the challenge of turning around teams, but.........

Would be a fantastic hire..no nonsense guy, health problems would be the only thing that may prove to be problematic! Considering all of the failed attempts at hiring a new coach, this would surpass my expectations at this point.

This was just sent to me today as a PM from a former player of mine and also played for RM:
"Oh yea, I just saw that today. I would be SHOCKED if he actually does leave because I've heard that this upcoming season will be his last year due to his age and reaching 500+ wins for his career. I couldn't see him trying to build another program, especially one playing in the big east, but you never know! I would try like HELL to get on staff at SMU if that were to happen. He's pretty tough to work for, but he is a hell of a coach and that would definitely help my career too. So I guess we'll see!"

I'd be ecstatic to get Rick Majerus to the Hilltop. The man wins, and I'm ready to see the Ponies win ... a lot.

Doh was a no nonsense guy as well. He just did not coach that well.

Yeah... but Majerus has a personality and can motivate a team. He is tough and demanding, but will let his team play. I can guarantee you the team will have a much improved defense and more discipline under his direction. Would love to see him come on board, with a couple of strong assistants and recruiters. Let's show him some nice hotels when he's in town. Maybe one of our donors in real estate can work a deal in finding him a nice hotel room/home.

You would think any restaurant located in a hotel would supply him with a room in the hotel.

Anybody have an idea of how long something like this would take to put together if they already have permission to talk?

IIRC the article stated that he had 'recently' been given permission. So I would suspect that talks have been going on. I seriously doubt this deal happens but would not mind seeing him as our coach.

All the others have turned us down fairly quickly.

Probably depends on how quick SLU ups the ante with a raise and new contract.

I'm not taking his candidacy seriously.
But then again, I'm really not taking any name seriously because SMU is not taking this search seriously.
