Coack K did. Calhoun did. Boeheim did. Wooden did. Are you kidding right now?

OBF, sorry dude, but you are mistaken at least regarding Duke and Syracuse. We would love to have their basketball history. Do a little fact finding..........

If Larry Brown is able to win a national championship at SMU it will certainly be a singular achievement, but it doesn't automatically make him the G.O.A.T. It strengthens the argument, especially as an overall basketball coach, but he'd be a few down the list for college or professional specifically in my opinion.

As far as total coaching LB could be the best. I don't know of any other coach that has won an NBA championship and an NCAA championship.

And as with someone like Babe Ruth, sometimes history/legend/mystique override the actual talent level even if that (very high) bar is reached.

Duke was a powerhouse before coach K was there...multiple final fours and championship game appearances prior to his arrival.

They were playing for the natty 2 yrs before he got there...ur simply, objectively wrong on this one.

Additionally, Syracuse was in the final four two yrs before JB took over

Duke was nothing of what they are today before K was there. Same with Cuse. They are what they are because of K and Boeheim. They wouldn't be what they are without them. Both those programs were decent. I'll spend more time researching this when I'm off work but I'll give you a slew of guys that took nothing programs to everything. Didn't hear anyone complain about Wooden or Calhoun, right? I'll dig up many more. SMU was in the Final Four before too. 7 Sweet 16s in a 12 year span. Guess they were a powerhouse. The only difference is someone else bridged the gap for the next 30-40 years and it didn't happen at University Park.

I guess I view Dallas as a hotbed when it comes to basketball, there's quite a few top prospects out of the Metroplex every year.

I agree Brown is one of the greatest coaches of all-time, he's my favorite coach and I personally believe top 5 X's and O's coach of all-time, but to say he's better than a guy like Wooden or act like he's carving a trail that nobody else has is kind of crazy imo. He's the latest to do it.

Wooden is the best college coach ever. No doubt and his record is untouchable.

I think LB- if he wins a National Championship at SMU will be considered in the top 3. Not the best but certainly in the top of the top.

If he doesn't then he will still be a HOF coach - which isn't too bad - but not considered in the elite of the elite.

And lol at Cuse being something before Boeheim got there. Christ, he took them to their 2nd NCAA appearance ever and first Elite 8 as a player, then was the lead assistant to the final four team in '75. 6 NCAA tournament appearances total before he was officially HC. He's taken them to 30/37 years coaching since then, he's in his 38th season, he'll be in it again this year. Oh and he was a part of Syracuse program for every single tournament appearance they've ever had except for one.

So yes, Boeheim completely built Cuse into what they are today.

I'll save you the time, OBF. We would gladly trade histories with UCLA or UCONN as well. ALL of the programs you mentioned had much better histories before their icon coaches came along than we did...........

If he even gets them to a Final Four, he's a top 5 coach and they're all interchangeable depending on preference at that point. I think it's very hard to argue who the best coach in college basketball even today is without a doubt. Some are good recruiters, some are good PR reps, some are good in-game with X's and O's, others are great leaders...I think a legit argument could be made for Brown, K, Boeheim, Izzo, Donovan, Williams, Self, Cal, Pitino...I don't think I could really rank those guys even if I tried other than looking at championships which is a lot of luck anyways so I don't know how reliable that is as a metric for measure.
