Well , guesstimate at best, but everyone who texted me about the transfer last night basically said Xavier --> thug --> good luck. Not that they're right, but that's what they wrote.

Well, there are "good thugs" and "bad thugs". "Good thugs" we need more of at SMU IMHO (tough, hard nosed competitors who don't take [deleted] and don't back down from a fight and who have swagger . . . rise to the occasion of a "challenge" and who LIVE for those moments . . . eg like playing AT Baylor when they are christening their new stadium). "Bad thugs" not so much (people who do bad things off the bball court and put team chemistry, their own eligibility, and SMU brand name at risk). Are these Xavier people telling you this? I heard other comments more on par with sadness he's leaving from other X folks. Who knows. But the last thing we need are transfers who screw up our team chemistry. Tolbert seemed like a good add in that regard. I know nothing about Martin other than what I've seen of his game highlight reels which show great size and can hit a wide open long ball against quality competition in an important game. Other than that, I have no idea. Competitor? Work ethic? Toughness? Defense? Rebounder? Team player? Have no idea.

The folks I have talked to around here say that he is a tough nosed kid who plays hard, likes to compete but who can get carried away occasionally. He wants to be on the court during crunch time and he isn't afraid to mix it up. I think he gives us a hard nosed presence that we can always use against some of the teams we play.
