Gutless -- Typical SMUModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Gutless -- Typical SMUYeah, I'm out. We don't stand up for ourselves and our brand despite an egregiously heavy-handed punishment for a self-reported violation. If this is the way we're going to play, we need to drop to division III or whatever they're calling it this week, immediately. SMU gets no more money or support in any way, shape or form from me as long as Turner remains president. I may only donate about a grand a year so it's not like buildings are being named after me, but those checks are now going to be written to someone else who cares about their brand.
Support the Commitment! We're all SMU Mustangs fans- we should all be committed!
Re: Gutless -- Typical SMUHey I got two OTP bricks for a G
can't find them though
Re: Gutless -- Typical SMUI guess I don't appreciate the gravity of this decision...am I disappointed for the seniors? Sure. But this does not particularly make me want to yank my donations and demand Turner/Hart's heads? Not really. Same ole spineless administration that I donated to before.
Help me hate.
Re: Gutless -- Typical SMUi can help you - we just lost our best shot in 40 years at a sweet sixteen team. Threw it away like it was worthless. Told the seniors - thanks for making us relevant but tough luck - have a pat on the back. All the time money and effort by our entire SMU community was set on the curb like a sack of trash, because we have no spine.
Re: Gutless -- Typical SMUThe more I read the more I have to agree with not appealing the ban. First the odds of winning are slim. Second, it sounds as if the NCAA could actually extend the penalty to 2 years if we appeal. Third, we still have good players even if the seniors leave and hopefully with the cloud of the investigation gone we can recruit good players, and still have a good team going forward.
Negative. We most likely lose our top players this year and if they stay, they are being unjustly punished and that sucks. I think the positives outweigh the negatives. As far as how the situation was handed from the beginning, it sounds like we could have done a better job. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Gutless -- Typical SMUI sadly agree, this goes back more on SMU (although, I still believe the NCAA over punished us). I'm STILL pissed off... especially for Nick and Markus. But, who isn't?
Re: Gutless -- Typical SMU
It wasn't self reported. They busted us through an investigation. The original report they received proved incorrect, but their investigation uncovered the violations. The trustees, provosts office, Mustang Club and coaches all support the administrations decision along with a lot of the fan base. This was an informed decision and is trying to do as much for the program as could be achieved through the appeal process. It's unfortunate that there wasn't a viable way to overcome the postseason ban. And walking away from the program and school doesn't sound like a loyal fan. Don't know how we will ever have a program when all the bandwagoners show their true colors at the first opportunity to jump ship. Suck it up. Welcome to sports. Be a fanatic and root for your team whatever the obstacles. "This is . . . dedication to distraction by fans. Is that what I'm going to go with Jay?"

Re: Gutless -- Typical SMUDarn tooting - + Academy is running discounts on snorkels right now
Re: Gutless -- Typical SMUThe NCAA gave Frazier immunity which revealed testimony that Larry Brown got tripped up on-that's what happened. SMU and specifically Larry Brown did not fully self report-we had employees who refused to cooperate.
A good question-that I don't know the answer to is whether SMU attorneys were in the room at the time of their interview with Frazier ie was this a deposition type situation or more evidence in the nature of an affidavit. If SMU attorneys were in the room at the Frazier interview its very likely that they were the ones' who suggested to Larry that his testimony was inaccurate and should be immediately corrected on the record. The fact finder (committee) doesn't have to buy that correction Last edited by Stallion on Sat Oct 10, 2015 1:03 pm, edited 1 time in total.

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: Gutless -- Typical SMUOrsini would not stand for this.
Re: Gutless -- Typical SMU2nd and long - i think you are offering a sanitized version. And naming the provost office (there isn't one) and the Mustang Club as supportive is kind of ridiculous.
I can see how someone would be pissed enough about this to walk. I do think it was overly conservative and kind of typical of the Turner method. We needed to see some backbone and passion, and we got a limp handshake. You watch what happens to the next appeal of these sort of sanctions. THe other school will get relief, meanwhile we squandered our current team and look like we aren't ready for prime time. Welcome to sports? If we had sports like everyone else had sports, we would have been prepared for this, would have defended it with better representation when it first came up, and would be supporting our best team in years and our thousands of loyal basketball fans by appealing the post season ban and pushing this to its logical conclusion instead of being a surrender monkey.
Re: Gutless -- Typical SMUSMU has bare MINIMUM support for sports other than the awesome boosters paying for everything.
