SAE: Get a clueModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: SAE: Get a clueRe-listed:
No one comment further until they have been re-educated by the spririt squad 11 great SMU traditions to inspire you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBhQxBaNnAo After fast forwarding through this, if I were an incoming student, I would be so inspired to attend SMU Basketball game sans any fraternity or sorority letters so much so that I would de-pledge if ordered to attend.
Re: SAE: Get a clueHow do we know that if we simply asked the SAE's to show up with school colors that they would get mad and not do it. It never hurts to ask right?

Re: SAE: Get a clueThankful to have the support from the SAEs
Re: SAE: Get a clue
I don't understand this line of thinking. It's kind of like the argument that JJ got us to bowl games so we shouldn't expect more. I was never in a frat and I don't hate on the experience but when any organization becomes bigger/more important than your school, that seems misguided. I looked up some of the national schools (public and private) where Greek life is huge and got pics of their student sections at bball games. We claim to try to be "top 25" in everything we do, but you want us to wear school colors to a sporting event? Please, we're SMU. Re: SAE: Get a clue
They are not. However, if not wearing SAE letters means the SAE's won't be showing up, that would mean: a) SAEs won't be wearing SAE letters so you don't have to [deleted] about it, and b) there will be empty seats in the place where there were formerly 30+ SAE's cheering loudly for our team. Which do you prefer?[/quote] Re: B. That's a straw-man. You assume that those 30 tickets won't be picked up by 30 other students
Re: SAE: Get a clueAnd again, I've posted several times that the SAEs were great at last night's game. Best group of students we've had at any game this year. Just wish they didn't appear like they were cheering for TCU

Re: SAE: Get a clueWe do color-coordinated stuff for football games- which look terrible because the stadium is 1/2 full, but what if we started doing "white outs" or "red outs" or "blue outs" for basketball games? Have a different color each game, and have a company like Bank of Texas or Albertson's sponsor it with a T-shirt with their logo on the back for the first 2,000 fans or something

Re: SAE: Get a clue
Exactly. Except that "tradition" is a stretch, since this "tradition" has been sort of going on for maybe 5 years, and they seem to rotate. If you really must identify yourself with letters other than "S-M-U", how hard is it to have a red and blue version of your "Greek jersey?
Re: SAE: Get a cluehave a "red out" or "blue out" have the free t-shirt on everyone's seat. this should take care of the problem for the biggest games like vs Cinci and vs Lou.
Last nights game was on ESPN3, I am betting not too many people saw the SAE shirts.
Re: SAE: Get a clueFact: Factors outside of the control of a group of freshman created an atmosphere that has existed at SMU for a generation where Greek organizations take precedence over SMU in the minds of most students who participate.
Fact: Our basketball team's performance as well as our school's in-game atmosphere has changed dramatically this year. Many of us who have been around the basketball program for a long time have been enthused by the return to national relevance, but seeing a student section filled with individuals who care more about their particular organization than the team on the floor is a reminder of the apathy that has surrounded this program for a long time. The SAEs were spirited last night, and it was not their decision to dress that way. Hopefully they can be the ones to end a tradition that is just flat-out embarrassing when presented to the general public in the stands and on TV.
Re: SAE: Get a clue
Hopefully against Rutgers things will be better since that will be on national TV. #HammerDown

If you guys are really upset about this, like someone said, just ask them. I don't really care but the link above shows who the chapter leadership is. 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: SAE: Get a clueNot the biggest issue on the planet - someone send the SAE pledge trainer - or their chapter advisor -or both - an email along these lines -
a) thanks for being there - it was great energy - hope they continue to come and have a great time. Beer is great. b) any way possible the next time they can come in SAE jerseys that have any variation of our school colors? Thanks for considering it - we are trying to look better for our national TV audience - which we now have - and it looks a ton better if everyone is somewhat uniform. Its that simple, and there is no need to have a bunch of useless emotion or internet cat fights, although those are always entertaining.
