SEMOModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: SEMODitched the Princeton for the most part this game...pick and roll offense and it worked well with these talented guys with drives to the paint picking up fouls and shooting at the line well this game. They do have the talent for the iso spread pick and roll O.
Re: SEMO
This to me is a mystery: how can we be so bad at the line last game and so good at the line this game? Was it the upper deck in Ellis Davis that threw everyone off? Bad lighting (LOL)?
Re: SEMO
Honestly, though, every school in the country takes finals. Most schools still find a way to play relatively respectable basketball when they are coming out of finals.
Re: SEMOMaybe the JSU debacle helped Doh realize he needs to be more flexible with the offense.
Like others mentioned, seemingly a lot more dribble/drive tonight than I can remember from other games. Good to get a blowout win. Try to keep the 'mo going and let's roll into the OSU game with some confidence. ![]()
Re: SEMO
This quote cracks me up. Players are SUPPOSED to do everything their coach says. Losh has been awfUl and I wish he would be burried deep on the bench never to be found until garbage time. But if the reason he plays is bc he does everything the coach says and others do not then that is the fault of the other players, not Losh.
Re: SEMO
If doing everything the coach says and shoot 21% from 3 pointland is good for the team, then by all means let him play..?????? ![]()
Re: SEMOPatsevich shooting for 2010-11 (partial season and didn't play until January I believe)
5-15 3 pointers, 8-24 overall 33% 1.5 ppg Patsevich shooting for 2011-12 5-20 3 pointers (25%), 8-33 overall (24%) 2.3 ppg For a player who was suggested to be the designated spot up 3-point shooter for this team, these probably aren't the numbers the coaches were looking for. He's running out of time to give the coaching staff a reason to trust him at this role. And no Travis...I'm not talking to you...
Re: SEMOFirst off, I want to say that I think Losh is more athletic than Harp. He isn't a complete liability on both sides of the court...
Defensively, if he is not in the game, then Nyak is guarding a bigger player down low. Losh doesn't seem to be completely lost defensively and held his own last night against some of the bigger players. Not sure if Jalen has the frame to do that just yet. In this offense, they want to spread the floor and give space for dribble drive and also create a lot of space for the big. Losh's man is out on the perimeter guarding him tight. Sure, Losh doesn't have the speed to break it down or run around a pick and get open for a shot. But it sure creates space. That space allows our short guards to drive and it also let Smith dominate the offensive glass.
Re: SEMOI think the Harp comparison is pretty good. Thought to have a good offensive game, but earned playing time solely through defense and being in the right place. I have tried to focus on him at the games I have attended and his defense has been more hard nosed than I expected. Not saying he is lockdown, but he seems pretty sound.
That said, I struggle to recall any of the big shots in critical times last year that Travis mentioned. Could you remind me of the ones I am forgetting? Grant Carter
Re: SEMOSorry Travis...they have now played about a third of the season ( 10 games so far) and those shooting % by Losh are just not acceptable...he has had ample time to shoot out of a slump. Shooters are a psycho group and you don't want to get in their head and you want to allow them to excel, but he hasn't done so. Beside that he is a senior and what is the upside for Doh?....he needs some younger guys to get game time. I watched Losh play at CCCC games before he came to SMU and he was a different player then.
Re: SEMOI was playing off of Taxi Driver's Travis Bickle (Hey, you talkin to me?). Given how much the athleticism has changed on the floor, Losh is really going to have to make an impression to prove his worth on there.
I wouldn't be surprised that once conference play starts and his performance continue its current trend, he won't be a part of this rotation. Minutes could be scarce -- just my take. He has to make drawn up open looks. He's just not doing it.
Re: SEMOLosh just isn't happening for me. Players such as Cunningham, Giles, Jones, Williams are all too good to not be in there in place of Losh.
