MOBModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: MOBI don't think the problem is the 130 points. Plenty of my friends would drive up behind Wescott and check in to the soccer games from their cars, collect their points, and leave. The problem is how difficult it is to get seats for 112.
The past few games were an exception because people were still at home for Thanksgiving, but I remember the areas behind the baskets being relatively rowdy for the first couple games. The problem is that in order to get a seat in Sec. 112, you pretty much have to get to the ticket office before 6 am on the Monday when they hand out tickets. I think what we really need is an organized effort to pass tickets around and get as many dudes into 112 as we can
Re: MOB
This doesn't seem like a problem to me... this seems normal.
Re: MOBWhat's dumb is that if you have 2 IDs, the 2nd one is not eligible for 112. What's the point if you can't be with your friends?

Re: MOB
That is dumb and needs to change
Re: MOBIt's an extremely goofy group of kids who probably spend a good majority of time playing World of Warcraft pre/post game. Point system=terrible idea. Guess will have to suffer through it this year and get some student leaders (who actually watch athletic) on whatever committees that create these type of stupid concepts. SMU LOVES committees. I remember my final year in Student Senate, we actually created an ad-hoc committee to discuss the number of ad-hoc committees that had formed over the year. I'm not kidding...
Re: MOBIt's the MOBs fault not the lack of enthused team play!!! GTFOH this thread is sophomoric as I've ever seen, give the fans something to cheer about and they will. Speaking to the diehard frat is the only way guys, you knew the system there's no complaining now.
Re: MOBQuite honestly I think most of the crowd complaints so far are a little premature. Outside of Arkansas we've had no significant home games and the team seemed to be actively deflating the crowd in that one. (16 first half turnovers and double digit deficits will do that...)
That said, the MOB complaints are silly for a far simpler reason: any student that actually wants to be at the games is. The system (according to the website and this thread) is incredibly simple and the points easy to accrue. Why can all the "girls and nerds" manage to go to some SMU sporting events (just a few and only for a few minutes) and wait in line at 6AM, but the "true" fans can't? Because they want to be there more. If Moody isn't rocking when Memphis comes to town, then I guess we can worry a little. (But if we're already carrying 4-5 losses and get down early, don't be surprised when the enthusiasm fades...) "Home court advantage" is a team effort between the fans and the athletes. Right now both might appear to be a little mediocre, but it's far too early to be this worried...
Re: MOBA lot of these complaints/suggestions are secondary to the real issue, which is most SMU fans are reactionary fans. They watch SMU bball and football like its a tennis match: they'll sit quiet until something good happens then they cheer (loudly). The best home court advantages have a fan energy that gets the team going. It's a complete philosophical difference. Do you see your primary purpose for being there to be the 12th man (in football) or 6th man (in bball), or are you there to be entertained?
Frankly, this is where the SMU AD is dropping the ball. The model last year kept fans energized the whole game. This year needs a little adjusting (as many others have commented), IMO. To be clear though, I'm not saying there is a "right way" to cheer, I'm just saying it might be best to fully appreciate/understand the challenge before we try to fix anything. Pony up!
Re: MOBCox - totally agree on game presentation getting pre-game energy up/maintaining it. Something is off there. This lull isn't 100% on the new MOB.
Still, I think overall it's just not true that there is naturally reactionary cheering. Last year the kids were rowdy basically the entire time, it was infectious to the crowd. This year it's not that way because 1) game presentation stuff, but mainly because 2) different kids. If the crowd was all red seats and upper bowl, yeah it would be reactionary. But you'd find that at almost any big time school. A big part of the incredible fun high caliber college bball is, comes from the energy of the students. Also, everyone who keeps beating the "they knew the system/true fans are there/we haven't played anyone yet" just stop. It's a bad system, this thread wouldn't be this long if everything was just swell. If you're being honest with yourself you know it's different and not in a good way. If a system makes something worse you dump it. I don't care what the system is. All this being said on this forum, I hope they pass this around or someone reads it and they bring it Friday. If you can't get up for a must win Friday game just forget about it. I have little faith. Hope they go a little crazy and, I dunno, have a beer or two prior and during. Usually, the team that scores the most points wins the game - John Madden
Re: MOB
I don't think the people in that camp (myself included) think it isn't different, we just aren't surprised it's different. Why would students/fans have the same excitement levels as last year? We had one great season last year after a plethora of insignificant ones and we're off to a slow start this year. These things do not change overnight. Blaming the "system" after one month and a few games is premature. (I'm not claiming it doesn't need any revision; just that it isn't causing the "problem".) I'm not trying to be negative. We're already better off than we were this time last year and we are still moving forward.
