Gutless -- Typical SMUModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Gutless -- Typical SMUNothing personal, but many put little stock in the opinion of the Mustang Club hierarchy to have any clue what is best for the program. The MC has been party to 25 years of one of the worst athletic programs in the country for revenue sports with only 2 years of good basketball and a hand full of non-embarassing football seasons.
At least the MC can look back at all the all-time worst records we have our name on. "I think Couchem is right."

Re: Gutless -- Typical SMUTry to keep the derogatory "insider MC club" comments to a minimum. The people on those boards are fiercely loyal fans just like many on this website. This situation well and truly sucks...but attacking Allen and the MC doesn't accomplish anything.
We can all agree to disagree but at least try to debate the facts instead of stream of consciousness hypotheticals.
Re: Gutless -- Typical SMU
Just because you are sucking up to certain posters and positions does not mean everyone has to do that. #HammerDown
Re: Gutless -- Typical SMUNice shot! Nonsensical but still a nice jab. Didn't know I had the reputation of sucking up to people. If you spent 5 minutes with me you would probably retract that statement. But again, fruitless personal attacks instead of discussion is mandatory around here. Amusing though...got a good belly laugh out of it, Mr Rebel.

Glad you got a laugh. I retract no statements s. Even Andrea the Giant can be neutralized. And I mean that by neutralizing someone with kindness. Last edited by Rebel10 on Sat Oct 10, 2015 6:26 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Re: Gutless -- Typical SMU2nd and long - I have spoken with plenty - probably higher up than you have. i have read everything relevant there is to read. I don't agree with your assessment. Some that think we shouldn't appeal think that because they think it is best to get it behind us and recruiting gains will outweigh potential success this year. I can respect that. Some are against the appeal because it puts them in an uncomfortable position with their peers. That frustrates me. Doesn't mean i am not informed, it just means i think we have more to gain in appealing the post season then we have to lose.
Glad you do what you do for the Mustang Club, but lets not pretend it is any kind of deliberative body that does anything but reflect the administration. It is fund raising and nothing more. Not that fundraising isn't impotent - it is vital for us, due to the NCAA putting us in a shoebox for the last 30 years. If you want to line up with the milk toast brigade that is fine, but don't expect everyone else to do the same thing. These sanctions are capable of being turned over - its the NCAA, not a court of law. They can do what they feel like as they have proven dozens of times. On their list of reasons is that the penalty is overly severe. We meet that test in spades.
Re: Gutless -- Typical SMUGostangs,
I'm not in disagreement with much of your post. I merely commented on the demonization of people who serve on the MC board. I just don't see it as productive. And I served on the board long before Allen so no need to suck up to him. Although I happen to think he's a solid fellow. His brother...meh. : )
Re: Gutless -- Typical SMUI was on the excessive penalty band wagon until I saw the new guidelines stating academic fraud carries one or two year post season ban. Game over unless you can prove there was no academic fraud.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: Gutless -- Typical SMUAnd some of this Board apparently don't realize they represent a meaningless little niche of the SMU community the vast majority of which if informed of the basic facts would overwhelming support Turner in protecting the reputation of the university. Some of you actually think filing a lawsuit against the NCAA would be reasonable. In 1986 some of you actually filed a ridiculous lawsuit after 5 probations in a little over 10 years. Now carry on

Re: Gutless -- Typical SMUa lawsuit would be ridiculous, i never suggested that. Also never criticized MC board members. i have been on that board myself and loved doing it.
Admit i am in the minority, since the majority don't really think these things can be appealed just because a piece of paper says so. They don't understand how the NCAA works. You have to press them to get anywhere, and we just aren't up to it. Just keep in mind the same people who under hired our defense when this first came up are the same ones who want to just accept the post season ban. Enough said - i have made my position known and it will change nothing about the direction of things. I don't disrespect anyone with a different view.
Re: Gutless -- Typical SMUI only identified my position on the MC Board to not hide behind my avatar (not accusing anyone else of this either). I don't disagree with assessments of MC. It's a fundraising board that's committed to the student athletes.
I identified that only to say that in that role I sit on other boards and committees that are chaired or attended by all facets of the university including various legal roles. I have attended those meetings in the appeal period. Do I promote SMU? Absolutely. Every chance I get. I also sit on a board in Cox. Do I agree with the administration right now? Yes. I've heard their reports first hand as well as from their advisors, not all of them, I'm sure. I've made my own assessments. I've heard opinions from people on here to do it just to try. And I have heard and read legal positions and reports. The decision to appeal the postseason ban is an emotional one and I share that feeling. The decision not to is based on input from Larry, legal and athletics. "This is . . . dedication to distraction by fans. Is that what I'm going to go with Jay?"

Re: Gutless -- Typical SMULogical decision would be to appeal. But from a tickets sales and monetary collection standpoint from certain groups like the Mustang Club it would be in their best interest not to appeal. If you appeal and the ban gets moves to next year ticket sales may fall off and for other groups contributions may fall off. If that was the case then part of the decision may have been about money more than the student athletes and especially not the seniors.

Re: Gutless -- Typical SMUonly part of the many reasons going into this Business Decision-several others reasons too. But it would be a factor that should be considered
