Why is no one talking about the re-seating at Moody?

Got email from Mustang Club indicating if the new tax law goes into effect, I could prepay a number of years to Mustang Club and still get my deduction but I still would not know where my seats are going to be for a number of years?

Don't think I will renew. Been a season ticket holder in 104 a long time.

-Whatever you donate for your Seats next year you have to donate that same amount going forward to keep those seats. You can’t give a bigger gift to get seats during the reseat and then go back down the the seat requirement minimum the next year.

Well, that's just extra [deleted].

Basically saying, "Despite our claims otherwise, we have no idea what our seats our worth, so just go ahead and guess. If you get the number just right, you get your seats! If you're wrong, you either don't get your seats or (even better) you get your seats AND get to overpay for them forever!"

I'm a bit sad this looks like it'll be my last year as a season ticket holder, but I've had plenty of good times so it is what it is. On the upside, I'll obviously still go to games and have to give SMU way less than I currently am. I'll miss "my" seats though.

The reason they are doing this is to stop people from making a one time donation to jump the line. For instance if you want to sit low section 212 and have 4 seats your seat donation requirement is 4k, Mu stand club leaves switch though at 5k+. So if you donate 5k you move up a level in order in mustang club tiers for only a 1k difference in donation (if you are willing to pay 4k you probably have another 1k in discretionary spending). They want to stop the person who only wants to buy 4k seats but is willing to pay a onetime increase to make sure he gets them because now that person has to donate 5k each year.

Considering how many people are worried about the rich donor swooping in and taking their seats, this system discourages that exact type of behavior.

So does this mean that if I were to increase my donation in hopes of keeping my seats, but I am not ranked high enough to keep my current location and, say, have to get seats in a worse section (yes, I know, there are no bad seats in Moody - guess the price differences reflect what?) and a section that does not require the level of donation, I would have to stay with the higher donation level just to keep the lower donation seats?

If that is true then that's complete BS.

This whole nonsense with requiring folks to "pony up" to certain locations, but not being able to guarantee those folks those seats is bull... You want to raise ticket prices or even donation levels - fine - but to ask for donations and not knowing what that donation is going to get you, which could be worse than your current location is just wrong. I don't care what other schools do.

And as folks have already mentioned, spare us on posting winning percentages - we are NOT in the same league with those schools in comparison. My wife saw that on our kitchen table and started laughing, first thing out of her mouth, "how many times has SMU made it to the NCAA tourney in the last 30 years and how many games have they won?"

Was talking to several folks last night and they were all in agreement that they were not going to raise their donation levels. And some said they would not renew their tickets.

I'm not sure of the answer to that. Now it is also possible that this is just something they are telling people to avoid gamesmanship as it seems like something they would not be able to enforce.

Basically, it is clear they want to charge more for tickets, they want to give higher level donors better seats if the donors want them, and they don't care about any ill will they create from current season ticket holders. It's obvious that every decision they make regarding moody is all about maximizing revenue. That sucks for the in game experience and the fan but I can understand it given the economic realities of playing in a non major conference and trying to have top teams.

It's frustrating. I would willingly pay the higher seat donation and even ticket price, like I did a few years ago, if that guaranteed my same seats. But to ask me to pay without knowing what I will get for the pay increase is nonsense.

I was also confused, because according to the info flyer, it looked like the seats in 111 were for sale? I was under the impression those were special seats not available. It lists donation levels and seat prices. Is that true, then under the new seat plan, those will be for sale to season ticket holders?

Seems like they didn't take into account the vacated wins due to the Keith Frazier incident in calculating those percentages.

It just seems so needless to make long time season ticket holders angry by not allowing them to simply pay up to renew their seats.

Simply jack up the prices and donation levels in the best seats.... then increase them to a lesser degree across Moody. I can assure you many people would choose to move or drop their tickets when faced with a big price increase. But at least it's the season ticket holders choice to give up the seat.

I'm dropping 2 of my seats in Moody at the new donation levels. I'm also dropping my two football season tickets because I now know that if we ever get good and their is demand for good seats then I'm out due to a reseat . I naively assumed the seats were mine as long as I payed the going price. Now I know better. GA here I come.
