An 87-50 win ain't shabby

Postby Sam I Am » Tue Dec 21, 2004 8:30 am

Talk about a turn around team, the last two games the ponies have been on fire. Let's see if SMU can sustain their momentum after the holiday layoff. This could get interesting.

I like our next four games on the schedule, especially the timing. We have to be pretty confident right now, the team is actually playing as a team with a lot of contributors. What a novel concept!
A bit of a break, some good practice, no trip to God knows where for a tournament, X-mas at home (rare in D I these days) and a payback game out of the box to start conference play. These next four games will tell us a lot about progress, heart, and expectations.

Congrats to coach Tubbs and the rest of the team for marked progress and evidence of hard work. Yeah, I know, we should have won by 47 and Hopkins shouldn't have missed any shots and had six more assists because this was such lousey competition.

And it wasn't even as close as the score indicated. We were pulling the regulars with 12 minutes left. Great work by everyone. Keep it up Ponies!

Nice showing by Hopkins. Good to see the Ponies not playing down to the competition like Tex St. and UT Tyler. Baylor and Pine Bluff were both very lousy teams.

The next 4 games will give us an idea of where they are at. Let's see if they can be consistent for a change in WAC play. It's very important to get some points on the board in the first 5 minutes. That seems to be hard to do on the road the last couple of years.

I don't know I was a little disappointed in Hopkins, I mean he only had a couple of steals and one foul in close to 10 minutes of play. He just kept missing his shots.

On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?

This was by far the worse team we have played this season. However, I was impressed by the intensity the Ponies brought to the game. They played hard from start to finish although it was a blow out. It was obvious that Coach Tubbs demands 100%+ from everyone at all times. This was not playground BB but a team that played well in all aspects of the game. Hopefully, this will translate well into the regular season.

It would have been nice if the team could have had a performance like this against a such as TCU or Texas Tech. So far it looks like we can compete with really bad teams, but against average or slightly better than average teams, we can't compete. However, that has been Mustang basketball for a long time.....

COMPETE? You weren't there, were you. That was a massacre, and as MustangStealth said, it was even more lopsided than the score.

BHop was brilliant. I'm surprised he didn't drop-kick a 3 on his way out of the tunnel after halftime. So much of shooting is confidence, and his confidence is overflowing at the moment, which is vital as we enter WAC games.

Best parts of the game:
- ZERO turnovers for Hopkins.
- Defense that led to the 30-4 run in the second half (FOUR points in 14 MINUTES!)
- Castro down low .... he made a mockery of Pine Bluff's interior defense.
- Coach Tubbs getting after the refs when they allowed that follow-up shot well after the halftime buzzer sounded.
- Getting playing time for the guys who practice and rarely get on the floor. Just wish Dement and RHop had scored....

Great job, Mustangs! Keep it up!
