I have heard from various people (friends, friends of players) that B-Hop is telling teammates that he is leaving after this year to go pro. I don't think it would be the smartest move, but it probably shows he's frustrated here and is ready to move on.

I've heard that, but its no surprise because its been a goal of his since before he got to SMU. My guess is its 50/50. If Tubbs wasnt here it would 0. Hey you cant blame anybody who has a chance to make a living playing basketball for trying. College will be there. I dont think Bhops going to getting any healthier or any stronger. He was an early bloomer and his body has been mature since high school.

Good luck w/ that. He is no better than Sasser and major flaws in his game. NBA will eat him up if he even gets picked up.....
well

i disagree, and I think he is way better than Sasser. Have you actually seen Sasser play???? He has absolutely no SHOT whatsoever. He made his living at SMU feasting on smaller guards guarding him. I really think B-Hop is one of those players that will be better as a pro. Quinton Ross made it undrafted, and he plays a dime a dozen position. B-Hop plays a premium position. There's no doubt he will get a strong look, even if he's not drafted, and if Sasser and Ross made the NBA, Bryan will too

Yes, just about every game at SMU. Better as a pro? Ross is a much more solid player with better fundamentals. Hopkins still plays like he is in HS. You can't jump step in the NBA...maybe I'll eat these words, but he is no Gordon, Hinrich, or Ridnour. Hell, he isn't even the best PG in the WAC...
Gee, Sasser stats are terrible!!!
Sasser led the Mustangs in scoring (17.0 ppg), rebounding (8.3 rpg) and assists (4.2) last season as SMU finished 18-12.
He finished his career as the program's all-time leading scoring with 1,992 points. He also owns school career records for free throws attempted (720) and field goals attempted (1,710). Sasser finished in the top 10 in SMU annals in nine other categories.

The choice is not just SMU or NBA - there are many young men making a nice living for themselves in Europe - My prediction is that is where B-Hop will play - he is fast but not in control on his drives, has no consistency in his shot - he would be a much better passer on a faster team, but he is not NBA material. Good hops but not that big a deal there from a pro standpoint. Q makes it on his defense - hop will not get it done there.
Can you say pony in Italian?

Ponyfan, your not listening. Nobody said Hopkins is a lottery pick. He may or may not ever make it in the NBA, but he has a much better chance than you suggest. Mavsrage is right, Sasser fed off posting up smaller guards in college. His jump shot could not function in the NBA. Hops jumper is good, and he can pass. In the NBA, the guys will catch the passes that wiz by the ears of our guys. He is a step slow from the foot injury or whatever, but physically he has peaked it looks to me. In fact, the guys body has aged beyond its years. Who knows how long he can play? He can make alot of money in Europe right now, if not the NBA and he could lose out on a year of big earnings that may not be recouped if he stays in college. Thats just reality. I hope he stays at SMU for selfish reasons, but realize thats what it is.

Well, I can bet you he isn't thinking about playing in Belgium or Amsterdam. Maybe the old HS Bhop would have progressed into a nice player....I just don't see it. When has he played a consistent 4-5 games in a row?

He will be much more frustrated playing in Europe.
What a joke.

If BHop leaves early, hopefully we will yank the scholarship that belongs to his brother so that it can be given to somebody who might actually play.

BHop is the better pro prospect at his position because he meets the requirements his position in the NBA better than Sasser meets the requirements of his position in the NBA. As many of us thought The Q was the most fundamentally sound and really only needed more late developing physical maturity to get a chance. Sasser is a fundamental flawed player in the NBA since he simply can't shoot. BHop ain't a great shooter either but then again a PG doesn't always have to be a big scorer to make a contribution.
BHop is not leaving

Why would he leave when he wouldn't even be drafted. He is not as good as Sasser or Ross. Sasser's game was ugly, but he did a lot of little things. Ross was a solid player all around. He plays great d, he is a good shooter, and he is an excellent slasher.
If BHop were to get any sound advice from familiy, friends, etc..., it would be to stay in college another year and gain more experience.......his very outside, outside chance of playing in the NBA would improve with another year of school.
He makes horrible decisions and he is an inconsistent outside shooter.....how can anyone believe he would be an NBA player. I believe there is a chance that Bhop's game would improve with better players around him, but he needs some more time to develop.

Those interested in him in the NBA will advise him to stay in school. Leaving school early to play in Europe would not be his best move and all but European teams will advise the same.
