John Chaney

OK, so he doesn't coach SMU. But he's a hot topic right now.

If Chaney was our coach, what should his punishment be for his premeditated goon attack against St. Joe's?

I think he should be fired. This is a man whose job includes setting an example for his players, and teaching them the right way to play. He's done anything but, and he deserves to be canned.

That's pretty good, OP!

I've never been an eye-for-an-eye guy, but the Saint Joe kid's season is over, and probably his career, directly because of Chaney's orders. I don't know how good he is, but as a senior, his college career is done. Since his season is over, Chaney's should be over (and it might be, if they don't get an NCAA or NIT bid after the A-10 tournament). If the Saint Joe's guy doesn't get a job playing in Europe or someplace, Chaney should never be allowed to coach again.

Isn't that why Clayton Korver made the team at SMU to "goon it up"?

He's not coaching in the tournament and I would assume they would announce his retirement soon thereafter. His days are done.

Yup, I remember him. What position did he play on the football team?

Clayton Korver (the animal) was SMU's goon in the middle. I don't think he ever played more than 10 mins before he fouled out, but he sure did open the lane.

I would like to take this chance to offer my services as a Goon for Coach Tubbs in these last few games. I have no qualms about roughing people up. I would especially be interested in getting to foul that bean pole Fazekas, I think he would probably snap in half.

Sign me up for some shots at Fazekas. I can't believe he's only a SO.

What happens if they suddenly get hot and win the A-10 tournament and make the NCAAs? And if they make a run in that tournament? The media will have seizures trying to decide whether to praise him for his longevity and victories, or whether to tear him up for putting in his "goon."

How would you like to hear a coach refer to your son as a "goon?" I would think his parents must be smokin' mad right now.

You're right, that would be awkward, to say the least. Personally, I don't see it happening, though.

Personally, I don't think he needs to be fired. If he resigns, I think that would be the ideal end result. In the meantime, my vote would be to have him sit out the rest of this season, as well as all games next against Saint Joe's. And this plan is acceptable only if his remaining salary for this year and for next year's Saint Joe's game is taken from him. I'd hope they'd give it to John Bryant or set up a scholarship at Saint Joe's in Bryant's name.
