Does Mike Dement show up for Junior's senior day?

A very saucy conundrum indeed...

And I am sure that we, as good Mustang fans, will show Michael and his family the warmth and respect they deserve. Michael has been a very positive influence on this team for his four years. He needs to know that his attitude and efforts have been appreciated.

I would hope Coach Dement does show up, and that all PonyFans give him a warm reception. If he shows up, he's there as Mike Jr.'s dad, and if for no other reason, he deserves a round of applause for raising a fine son who has given selflessly to our program. (And while we all wished for more wins, Coach Dement was a lot better than Shumate.) I hope the entire Dement family is there to enjoy the last home game of Junior's career. I, for one, will applaud Mike AND his parents.

I have to say I'm proud there are so many SMU alums who have and who show a lot of class. I hope everyone joins y'all in demonstrating your appreciation for Mike, Jr., and acknowledgement of his dad.

Of course. Anything less than a very warm reception would be very disappointing and would say far more about fans/alums than it would Dement. Should be interesting, but I'll tell you the bigger family issue on Saturday: Michael Harris is playing in front of his ill grandmother from Hillsboro for the only time all year in his last college game in the area. He might just eat us for lunch in the paint.

A warm and positive reception is what all good Pony fans should give and expect. Mike Dement is a class act and so is his son. SMU fans should wish the best for ALL former SMU coaches as it can only reflect well on SMU. Anyone who acts boorish tonight is no true Mustang.

My priority for that Saturday night game will be to locate Coach Dement and wish him well.

I would even wager that he will be seated near me...

BTW what is Dement current recruited/graduated rate. It is probably in the upper 3-5% of the country. I don't remember too many kids ever run off-if any- which I will agree is laudable but it should be remembered it made his job infinitely more difficult. I really wish the NCAA would simply allow a fair amount of scholarships per year (with the assumption perhaps that about 5 would be JC/CC/Division 1A transfers). Then a school would simply have the total of those that remain during the next 4 years or if a player was redshirted over 5 years. I wouldn't limit any school from signing JC/CC/Div. 1A transfers but taking too many would eventually have an adverse effect on their total numbers. Players could redshirt at the option of the coach and the university would pay for 4 1/2 years of eligibility as long as they abided by team rules and requirements. Boy talk about coaches becoming concerned with the academic performance of their players-that would do it.

You got it Abe. Boorish Friday, Genteel Saturday. If you drink enough to really get boorish on Friday it is usually easier to act genteel on Saturday so go for it Friday.

Good move, EP -- I plan to do the same. He's a very good man.
