Is it crazy to think that we still have a shot at an NIT bid??
If we win our 2 home games this week, we will end up 15-12 and 10-8 in conference. UTEP and Nevada will get NCAA bids and the NIT will probably want 2 WAC teams. I think if we are tied with La. Tech for 4th place (assuming Fresno loses at Hawaii and La. Tech wins both this week) and win 1 game in the conference tournament then I think we have a chance to play a road game in the NIT first round. I know it's not great but I would like to see our guys get a taste of postseason for all their hard work..
What are your thoughts?? Do we have a chance at NIT bid??
Thanks,
Stein

I wouldn't get your hopes up, the best we were ever able to get even when we had 20+ win seasons was a road trip NIT game, which we lost. I seriously doubt the NIT would want this SMU team. We can hope, but unless they can tear it up in the tournament I think we are staying home. Plus, why does the NIT want two WAC teams? Is that going to help with their ratings?

History shows that usually 2 teams from the WAC play in NIT tournament. Here's the facts from last 4 years:
04- 3 teams (Boise, Hawaii, Rice)
03- 2 teams ( Nevada, Hawaii)
02- 2 teams (Fresno, La Tech)
01- 2 teams (UTEP, Tulsa)
That is the reason why I think if we get 4th place, win a game or 2 in WAC tourney we may get an NIT road game...
Just my dreaming I guess...

If we averaged 15,000 fans a game your scenrio might fly, but we are not good enough this year to be a traveling NIT team.

Sadly, the chances of an NIT bid are about as remote as the moon. If you want fantasize, I guess imagine we win our last two home games and reach the final of the WAC tourney. That would give us 17 wins.

Geez, what a lousy fantasy. If your gonna fantasize, Eddie P, why not win the WAC tourney and go to the big dance?
As Dooby would put it, I mean why settle for Kathy Bates when you could have Amber Campisi?

fine, you can have Kathy Bates...I'll take Amber, all I gotta say is February Playboy...and I don't think the NIT would want us, we're not going to be able to take a bunch of fans to the games, or create a big tv audience even.

Perhaps Pony_Fan might agree to love up Kathy Bates on TV if we get an NIT bid. That might bring in some ratings. But seriously, our RPI as of last week was 145 our Sagarin 121. If we can beat Rice and either Fresno or Louisiana Tech in the first round that might bump us down into the 130's for RPI. Subtract out teams with losing records who have better RPI than us, and you're on the bubble for the NIT. If we can upset Nevada in the second round in their house we'd have RPI in the 120's and probably could secure a bid. Undoubtedly if we got lucky enough to get a bid it would be on the road.
