Rumor has it that BHop did not make his grades this summer and will not be able to play until the Spring semester IF he can get his grades back up. Rumor also states that Coach Tubbs is so mad that he might yank his scholarship.

Guess he should've gone pro... could've been playing in europe this fall. At least we have a great football recruiting season to cheer us up.
SMU guard Hopkins expected to miss 7 games
08:27 PM CDT on Monday, August 15, 2005
By CALVIN WATKINS / The Dallas Morning News
UNIVERSITY PARK -- SMU point guard Bryan Hopkins is academically ineligible for the fall semester.
Hopkins, a senior from Lincoln, who led the Mustangs in scoring last season at 17.9, said he had trouble in two classes last spring and he failed to make up for it in summer school.
Hopkins is expected to miss the first seven games of the 2005-06 season. Hopkins said he expects to return after first semester in mid-December.
SMU coach Jimmy Tubbs refused to comment when contacted Monday night.

That stinks. But if he's got to miss time, I'd rather he miss non-conference games. We have some cupcakes in there, and OSU will roll even if we had Hop, Sasser and Q. As a PonyFan, I expect Hop to get his grades in order and be fully healthy and dedicated when he returns to the floor in December. No excuses.

Agreed on all points!

Ditto.
On the plus side, I've heard glowing reviews of the progress Bamba Fall has made since he got to SMU, and I can't wait to see him play. But BHop needs to get his (academic) ducks in a row and be ready Dec. 7.

Is Hopkins allowed to practice with the team while he is ineliglible to play? If not, it will take a while beyond the date he can come back until he is game ready.

Will he yank his brother's scholarship as well?
Too bad we can't just suit up B-Hop in his brother's uniform

Bhop is probably the most overrated player SMU's ever had. He consistently disapoints in big games and serves mainly as a distraction. What a waste of two scholarships.

Without B-hop the other Mustangs may get used to playing a team
concept because Hop tends to dominate the ball when he is on the
floor. It will also give other shooters like Roberts, Epps, & Williams
a chance to log some minutes shooting the ball and getting into the Flow. It might also mean that Dez and Killen might tend to get the ball inside
to Rack, Morris, Pearson and Fall.
As someone mentioned above - we have several weak opponents on
schedule which we should win anyway and Hop's playing probably
wouldn't beat OK State. We might lose a game or two that we would
have won had he been there.
Also as someone pointed out, Hop (should he get his grades up)
should come into the conference part of the schedule rested and
in good health with no injuries.
I'm anxious to see Morris and Pearson go after some offensive rebounds
and get some junk baskets - both can be very effective around the hoop.
Before I predict any championships I'll have to see Fall and Rack really
contribute, but if they do, this could be a very good season.

Let's not overreact here. Yes, we're upset. Yes, we're angry. Yes, we're disappointed. However, let's not suddenly write off BHop as an insignificant player. He's a very talented kid who screwed up. I'm pulling for him, to right the ship in the classroom and kick some tail on the court.
