SMU's Kenzie Cole to miss 2005-06 season
Sophomore guard tears ACL
Aug. 23, 2005
DALLAS (SMU) - SMU sophomore guard Kenzie Cole (Brock, Texas) sustained a serious knee injury last week and will be out for the entire 2005-06 season, as announced by SMU head women's basketball coach Rhonda Rompola on Tuesday. Cole tore her right ACL during a pick-up game and is scheduled for surgery to repair the ligament on Sept. 1.
Cole transferred to SMU from Oklahoma State and sat out the 2004-05 Mustang season due to NCAA transfer rules.

Is this common with all women's bball teams, or is Rhonda just flat out cursed? Seems every year we have a player go down like this!

Maybe it is just the type of player that Rhonda gets here. I know we have had some good players here, but maybe the reason they were good was not because they were exceptionally talented, but because they worked their tails off. It does seem that people who have to work a lot harder to get something accomplish athletically are usually more prone to injury.....at least in my humble experience.

I have never heard of a team that loses so many players to injuries! What is going on over there?

One of the transfers for last year, Juli Colli, sat out due to injury. Is she elibible to play this year?

Yep -- Juli Colli will be playing this year. She's a Senior.

didn't Juli sit for two years, one for transfer rules, and one for an injury? I sure hope she is ready to play come this fall

You're right. Juli sat first year for transferring and then last year after hurting her finger. She'll be ready. Don't worry about that. She was chomping at the bit to play at the end of last year.
Man, that really sucks for Kenzie. I was looking forward to seeing her play, plus we had some real depth at guard.
