DALLAS, TEXAS -- Virginia Tech used a huge second half run and a monster game from Kerri Gardin to defeat SMU, 87-61, in the championship game of the SMU Hoops for the Cure Classic in Moody Coliseum. The Hokies improved to 4-0 with the win while SMU fell to 2-3.


Tech led 36-27 at halftime and put the game away with an 18-3 run to open the second half. Gardin (Sr., Morgonton, NC), the tournament MVP, led the Hokies with 20 points and 17 rebounds, her second consecutive double-double and the 13th of her career. Kirby Copeland (Jr., Morrow, Ga.) followed with a career-high 17 points while Carrie Mason (Sr., Seneca, Pa.)and Britney Anderson (Jr., Blacksburg, Va.) added 12 points each and Megan Finnerty (Sr., Atlanta, Ga.) tossed in 10.
