Good to see the SMU band played at the Stars game last night. There was also a SMU table in the concourse with 2 guys giving out bball calendars. A step in the right direction but how about a Mavs game?? Dallas hardly knows SMU exists.

I was told that the Stars called and invited the band to play. Possibility of another game in the future as well.

One of the guys said the Stars Marketing Director was friends with someone at SMU. Anyway, it was good to see it.

In other words it was the initiative of the Stars Marketing department who took pity on us and decided to help out a friend? When is our marketing department going to do something besides send out emails?

We had better be careful or the NCAA might declare the band ineligible for playing at a pro game.

I always thought it would have been cool to have the Mustang Band as a pep band at Mavs games. I know the USC band serves as a pep band for the Laker games. I went to a Mavs game a few years ago when they had the "Budweiser Spirit Band", I don't know who those guys were, probably local community college students or something, but they were pretty lame, hardly played anything other than the stuff they'd normally pipe in like "charge". They canned them after a few years and last year they had some "Mavs Drumline" which played well but was still nothing fun or inspiring, just doing stuff like "Lets go Mavericks, boom, boom, boom boom."

I would personally like to see a Tommy Tucker arrangement of the Stars fight song, as made famous by Pantera

No, but I thought the same thing and it would have been cool.

Another problem, is that they drop the puck fairly quickly after each goal, so you wouldn't get very far in to the song.

oh, and I bet it must've been quite a sight seeing our drum major skate, rather than run, around the diamond m at intermission!

Up north, there are some college bands that play as pep bands for their college hockey teams, like Minnesota, Michigan, Notre Dame maybe. Anyways, I think it's Michigan, they actually get out there at halftime on the ice and shuffle around, make the big M and then shuffle off. Seems like something Rice would do.

Negative. They are still playing Rock N Roll Part 2 from Child molester Gary Glitter - very sick of that song!!
