In Wednesdays DMN there wasn't any mention of the game with E Carolina. In today's DMN we don't even get our own story anymore, SMU gets a paragraph in the wire report section. SMU's continues to get swept under the rug by the DMN, most people don't even know when, are who we are playing. I am going to cancel my subsciption today!

didn 't u hear, the shorthorns are dallas' new team -
LOL
i know, its sad /
but you're right, the best way to get back is cancel your subscription -
but i would be willing to bet that if u really looked at the amount of $$$ u paid for your subscription & considered what u got in return, u were probably upside down anyways - kind of like a bad investment LOL -
hey - outside of the
coupon section, what value do today's newspaper really offer??? yep - you're right!!! NOTHING!!!
outside of investers biz daily & the wsj, they are totally useless & a waste of time to read in the first place -
ALL NEGATIVITY!!!
good move!!!

This is the last straw for me, after being referred to as the 'frogs', and now getting lower billing on the next to last page of the sprots section to Baylor and Tech's women's programs, and 4-whatever TCU in the "local" paper, I canceling now.

I understand the coverage that UT gets and I have always said that SMU would get better coverage if they won more, but the DMN has definetly hit an all time low today. This was a game that started at 6:00pm central time so there wasn't a time constraint. The frogs article is from a wire report also but their 4 wins warranted the headline and triple the amount of words.
Like I said, I understand Texas and the Big 12 getting alot of coverage but for SMU to not get BASIC coverage with an occasional picture is just wrong. I would cancel today if I thought it would help.

Those who are canceling make sure you send an e-mail or letter to the editor to let them know, otherwise your tiny ripple in the big pond that is the DMN won't register.

For the older guys, remember the greatness of the 60's when the DMN would do the cartoon each Friday predicting the winners of that week's SWC matchups. Peruna, Old Sarge, The Owl................... Can't remember the old cartoonist's name but he was awesome. Think Robert Dechard read the sports back then when he was a teenager? - hell no, he was a wussy boy. Now as a man, he has completely destroyed what was one of the great newspapers in America. The only way to send a message to that wuss is to cancel your subscription and stop watching channel 8.

There's an AP story linked on the PF.com home page -- is it not in the paper today?
I assume it didn't get in because the game would have ended on the east coast pretty late (our time) and there's no way the DMN sent Calvin Watkins to East Carolina. Probably couldn't find that state on a map.

EAST coast. It was a 6:00 p.m. (Central Time) tip-off. A high school Journalism I student could have developed a story as long as the TCU 6th-loss-in-a-row report using just the stats (and it was SMUs FIRST win EVER in CUSA).

You are I believe confusing the late games on the west coast with the games played on the east coast...or you are being sarcastic...which is fine with me.

what, you mean an east coast game that starts at 5 central could get into raleigh paper, but not dallas? That certainly is impossible. Good thing papers are not usually published around midnight.
Go Ponies!

I care, and there lack of coverage does sux. I am sure that other coach's use this against us in recruting. Hey recruit look at SMU, they get very little if any coverage in there home town paper. Will anybody know that you play there. Winning will help and so would a proactive marketing department. What a dreamer I am.

Realize that there are two arguments being debated here. No one should be surprised at the coverage devoted to UT and A&M. That sells papers and that is what DMN is in business to do.
That said, I have long complained about the local coverage of SMU (since 1968). I do think they could do a better job, but due to the fact we have become a national joke, we need to win to develope the respect necessary to be covered in a manner that is deserved.
