People leaving game last night in final 3 minutes

Postby VarsityShop » Sun Jan 22, 2006 5:08 pm

What was up with all the people leaving the basketball game last night as the game was winding down in the final few minutes? It's not like you need to avoid some massive trafiic jam. And it wasn't just "blue hairs" departing early. I betcha they were kicking themselves later.

I know several people that left and plan to give them grief at the next game. Funny thing was that the guy who sits behind me and who usually leaves 5-7 minutes early stayed to the end tonight. Reason was that someone else was driving!

These are the same folks who probably leave Ford Stadium at the half-time, too! Ridiculous!

Here's what you should say to them when you see them leaving (or the next time you see them): I notice that you're leaving the game early. Do you leave movies before they're over, too? Stick around...the ending might surprise you!

While attending SMU sporting events, I saw and heard some of the most ignorant sports fans on the planet.

Once at a bball game, SMU was down and time was running out, but we were fouling to try and get the ball back, etc, much like last night's Rice game. I heard several SMU fans yelling at our own team "quit fouling them, you're just making this game longer" and "we've already lost, quit dragging it out".

Or when the other team is shooting free throws, and I'm jumping up and down yelling, trying to make noise. The opponent makes the shot and immediately I get an earful of "shut up, it's obviously not working."

In bball or football, we're on defense and I'm yelling, trying to get people to make some noise and our own fans blankly stare at me and say "we're losing".

I remember explaining to a fellow student that "we need to make noise because that's how you get a homefield/court advantage, it can screw the other team up" and this person just rolled their eyes and said "oh please, like it affects them, I'm sure they're used to it."

Maybe I'm just crazy, but I always thought you could cheer to HELP the team by making tons of noise, not just cheering FOR them when we've won.
