It's too bad he didn't get a chance to have some tournament success while he was here.
How great would it have been if we could have had a team of Sasser, Davis, Hancock, Peorner, Fall, Hopkins, Woods, Ross all here at the same time.

Yea, I disagree with that. Might have been a Sweet 16 type team if they got some breaks though, but that is just pie in the sky. I made this same point the other day. We have gotten some good players over the last 7 or 8 years, just not enough at one time or the right combination of skills. Tubbs needs to put some back to back productive recruting classes together. I would say the class of Bamba, Morris and Dez will be very productive and each has a true position and fills a role which is important. Tubbs needs to pull a few rabbits out of the hat in the spring signing period to go with the one signing we have from November, Nyam.

We had 3 of those guys on the same team in 2000-2001: Sasser & Davis were both seniors and Ross was a sophmore. In addition to that we had Hancock who was junior at the time along with Lowe who was a freshman and started some. The Sporting News had us as a pre-season number 32 and no. 1 in the WAC. We never lived up to the hype - not even close, and Dement's downward slide started.

Who was the guy back in '95 who kept shooting air balls at the foul stripe?

well, we started something like 20-3, then fell apart after the Willie D ball off the foot as I remember. You are right that we had those 4 guys on the team, but the big problem was they were all about the same size and had shortcomings as a lineup. You had a point guard and three small forwards basically, none very good outside shooters. Ross became a pretty good shooter later in his career.

You throw Melvin Ely in with that group and you have something...or someone similar. But SMU doesn't work that way unfortunately....

I was really just trying to remember the best guys that I have seen while I have been following the team. Unfortunately, if you really want to have a shot at the tourney you have to have as Bus always says 'Big Men' on the inside. Something we have severely lacked.

Ya'll are crazy! How can you say this team doesn't win a national championship!
Lets look at the stats
Starting Lineup:
G: Jerryl Sasser (17 ppg, 4.2 apg, 8.3 rpg)
G: Damon Hancock (22 ppg, 4 apg, 4.4 rpg)
G: Brian Hopkins
F: Quinton Ross (20.3 ppg, 6.4 rpg)
F: Willie Davis (11.9 ppg, 7.3 rpg)
C: Jay Poerner
C: Bamba Fall
If you don't think this team is a lock for the final four you are a moron

No...I am the banker. I would never call the Judge (Arkpony) a moron. He may be called out of retirement someday to oversee a case in which I may be involved.
