Kansas puts full-court press on SOC's Arthur

Kansas coach Bill Self and assistant Kurtis Townsend made a beeline for South Oak Cliff after beating Baylor last night. They were wooing SOC star Darrell "Slim Shady" Arthur when I stopped by the school this morning.

It's the second time I've seen Townsend at SOC in the last week. The 6-9 Arthur, who is considering Kansas and a handful of other schools, is ranked as the nation's top unsigned recruit by Rivals.com.

I can't spot a big-time coach in a high school gym without beating them down with conversation, so I chatted with Self about the time I covered his Tulsa team's rout of North Texas. We shared a few chuckles about former UNT coach Vic Trilli, who was canned at the end of that season.

South Oak Cliff's 6-9 Darrell Arthur and three area girls basketball players were named to the McDonald's All-American boys and girls teams Thursday. Each team features the top 24 seniors in the country, and they will play games March 29 at San Diego State University.
