... should they accept it? If they do get a bid how well do you think they will do?

Announcements today

I asked because based on how they finished in the tournament do you really think they have a shot of going far in that tournament? Other than the economics involved for going would the trip be a 1 and done type of journey? Does the school/program get money for winningplaying in that tournament like the money schools get for playing in the NCAA?

The WNIT will be set tonight, after the NCAA draw is announced.

There's not much money in the WNIT, so it is probably a break-even proposition for most of the schools involved. Unless a team had several games at home with huge crowds, I doubt anyone makes significant money on the tournament.

It helps in recruiting and helps build the team for next year. The team gets to practice more in preparation for the NIT. Otherwise their season is over and team practices must stop. The team gets some bragging rights about getting into the tourney which helps in recruiting. Perhaps they get on TV which helps give some attention to the program. And if they win a couple of games it really boosts players' confidence for next year. Many teams which have a good run in the NIT have a great run the following year. You should NEVER turn down an NIT invitation.

As for the probability of us getting a bid, I'd say it's a little bit of a long shot. We are in the mid 90s in RPI and the Conference RPI is very bad. What may help us is the fact that (like the men's tourney) they've increased the field by 8 specifically to accomodate regular season conference champs who don't make the NCAA. I think only 6 or 7 of those spots will actually be filled, which means there will be at least 33 true at large spots. This is a larger field than the past, which gives us a little bit better chance.

Sorry your season did not get extended ladies, but congrats on your accomplishments and better luck next year.

Unfortunately, the Lady Mustangs did not get a bid. Basketball season is over on the Hilltop.
