He might be down at aggieland for awhile. They certainly have the money to keep him happy. They have committed to upgrading Reed Arena and Byrne is committed to athletic excellence across the board - not just football. So I am betting they do everthing possible to keep Billy G happy.
Gillespie is without question going to have the most athletic team in the Big 12 next year - if not the best team. He has made huge inroads in recruiting the Dallas area and the aggies worship a winner. They will be fun to watch in the coming years.
He has obviously proven himself to be the hottest coach in the country imo, but I think he only jumps for one of the basketball royals like his buddy and mentor Self did. Indiana maybe?
Upgrading? The place is not even ten years old. What needs to be done that soon?
I agree. That place is like the one at Tulsa -- a first-rate facility.
They should take the money earmarked for a Reed Arena upgrade and update the uniforms the Milkmen wear .... and replace the milkmen with real cheerleaders.
Reed Arena believe it or not was not constructed as a first class facility. Remember, aggieland has always been about football and there were a lot of folks that were not that fired up about creating a thump-thump facility that would detract from the hallowed ground of Kyle Field. The locker rooms were nothing to speak of and the scoreboard is/was a joke (I haven't been there this year). I am sure that will all be corrected now.
Gillispie is a Texan born and raised.. he bounced around as an assistant before landing w/ self at tulsa and then taking his first college lead role (somewhere).. the aggies all the $$$ to keep him, I think he really will stay... he came from a small town in texas so I don't he will jump ship to something that isn't comfortable to him.. (yes i know most acc schools are in small towns, but they are not small texas towns no matter how you look at it)
Yeah Reed Arena is probably the only college arena I've ever seen that did not have a center scoreboard. Instead they are up on the walls behind the baskets, up behind all the seats (think where we have the Krebs jersey). Who know why they designed it like that, but it reminds me of an NFL stadium with the jumbotrons behind each endzone.
