Bamba Fall = NBA Prospect!According to NBAdraft.net, a site dedicated to the NBA Draft, Bamba Fall is ranked 28th in the nation in regard to NBA draft prospects in the 2009 class.

This makes sense. I agree that the fawning many of us (let's be honest: I was among those who got over-excited) had after his first few games was premature. He needs a lot of work in the weight room and on his offensive game. However, he's over 7 feet tall, he is a very natural shot blocker/defender and his rebounding will benefit immensely from added weight and strength. And when you're projecting four years out, anyone with his size will get considered.
Here's hoping he develops to the extent that we can look back and say he was UNDERrated as a freshman.
thats all some of us ever said about Bamba. Some people wrote him off before he got here because of how skinny he is. Other people started calling him a lottery pick after he blocked a few shots. The truth is somewhere in between. Bamba is a nice prospect who had a nice freshman year. His biggest problem this year was the back injury. If he can resolve that, we will have a nice piece of the puzzle over the next three years. Complemented by a banger like Morris, we have something to build on in the post that we really havent in a long time.
I heard John Thompson III on the radio after Georgetown's win over Ohio State. He said that Hibbert was a project who was really a liability last year, but he worked hard for the past year and it has paid off. He gave all the credit to the player for the player's development. Hopefully Bamba will spend the next six months, eating, lifting weights, and working on free throws and a jump hook. At 7' a jump hook is impossible to defend.
Mamadou Diene (#33 on that list) came to Baylor from Senegal after having a tough time getting over malaria. He was 7'0" 197 lbs when he got to campus and in a little over a year is up over 240 lbs. It sounds like he and Bamba are similar players at this point. Both raw offensively but are athletic and can block shots. Diene led the Big 12 in blocked shots as a freshman.
If he and Bamba can put on some more weight, gain some strength, and learn some post moves, they'll be pretty tough by the time they're juniors.
It is extremely important for Bamba to put on weight this summer. IF he doesn't I will put a lot of blame on the SMU coaching staff. If you have to hand feed him then hand feed him. I miss Troy Matthews.
Some simply can't add weight. Manute Bol, when he was with the then-Washington Bullets, lifted weights constantly and ate everything in sight, including tons of protein shakes. At one point, they even sent him to some "expert nutritionist" with instructions to put weight on him, even if that weight included some extra fat. The guy had him on a diet of pizza (with everything) and heavy beer several times a day -- seriously.
And no, I definitely am NOT suggesting that Fall take that approach.
My 7th grade FB coach with permission and oversight by my parents had me drink a beer with each evening meal to help weight gain. I ate wheat germ by the ton. At SMU I ate 2 full meals at each sitting and then had dessert and topped everything off with peanut butter on bread. This went on through college to try and gain weight. I am proud to say that at age 40-45 it finally took hold and today I have no problem gaining whenver I wish. So the way I see it, Bamba is not too light, he is just too young.
![]() So THAT's it. He's too damn young! I can't believe you lived through that eating regimen, mrydel. Even on my closely monitored diet of bar food and whatever beer was within arm's reach, I literally doubled my weight in two years (without growing a single inch -- it was impressive). I think on your two-meals-at-a-time routine, I might have exploded.
I want Bamba to get his back healed before he hits the weight room. No matter how big he gets, if he can't play because his back is always giving him problems he will be of no use to anybody, and never make the NBA. Let's get him healed, and then worry about his strength cause at least at 7 foot if he is standing in the way he is going to continue to cause problems in the lane.
