I know you have narrowed your list down to Kansas, UT, Arizona and Baylor, but reconsider staying home. Give SMU one last look. We haven’t had a true “Big Man on Campus” in your lifetime and you would certainly be that. Believe it or not, there would be a lot of perks in being SMU’s BMOC.

Obviously, the DMN is very fond of you and they would surely give you plenty of ink at SMU. At Kansas or Arizona you will just be another big name. At SMU you will be the star from day one. Yes, our attendance sucks, but as we all know Dallas will jump on the bandwagon quicker than any other city. If SMU starts winning, people will come. Let your family, all of your family come to every one of your home game.....your friends too. This University, its students and alumni are starving for a reason to get excited.........be that reason.

You and Bamba would make the lane a scary place for all SMU opponents. Just think about it......show your hometown school some love. Come be a Pony.

i'll second dat. And Darrell, if you are the real slim shady, you will want to do your own thing and make your own choice. Who cares what everybody else thinks? Do it your way, whatever that is. The NBA will be there for you.

Arthur was on the cover of the Sport's Day School Day section of the Dallas Morning News today and had a nice article and interview.

This was a very new interview and he said Kansas was the leader but that Texas, Arizona, Baylor, and Oklahoma are still in the mix. No mention of SMU at all. He said he hopes to make his decision by April.

Our one saving grace could be that he said his family is very important to him and distance from Dallas to his school of choice would be a factor to consider.

I would say that we have no shot, however. Our miserable season did us in along with the inquiry going on. Lets face it, why would he want to come to a sub 500 team that just lost their best player to graduation? Plus, he can connect the dots and see how SMU did nothing for Hopkins' NBA hopes except hurt them. I am not saying Hopkins would have been an NBA player if he would have went to Texas, but I am sure he would have looked and played much better with better talent around him. This last season at SMU, if he didn't score well, we didnt break 50 and most often didn't win.

I love SMU basketball and attend every game and believe me, I wish we could sign him, but the fact remains, he would be better off playing for dozens of other schools at this point. It is up to us to elevate our facilities and our program to a level that will attract recruits like this. It will take time (lots of time) but can be done. Until then, we will have to settle for the "also rans" and make do.

we're not confused icebag (always wanted to call you that), Shady has always been and remains a super longshot for SMU.

I can appreciate that most everyone knows that Arthur is the longest of shots, I was just trying to voice some frustration that we became a much longer shot because of our poor performance last year.

I still support giving Tubbs 4 more years to make progress and understand it will not happen overnight.

I don't get why we aren't on his list but Baylor is?

Why Baylor and not us???? Big 12, better facilities, a team that is getting better, a high school teammate................

Can someone link the article because latest on rival with was posted wed. the 22nd still shows Kansas, BU, SMU and UT as the only ones with a shot.

South Oak Cliff's Arthur is king of bling

For someone who turns 18 Saturday, South Oak Cliff's Darrell Arthur has already accomplished a ton.

The 6-9 senior capped his high school career with his second consecutive Class 4A state title and championship-game MVP performance this month in Austin.

"I already got what I wanted – my ring," said Arthur, SportsDay's boys basketball player of the year.

Arthur developed from a shy, tall and skinny kid who had loads of potential and went by the nickname "Slim Shady" into one of the Dallas area's best basketball big men. He joins a list that includes Larry Johnson, Chris Bosh and LaMarcus Aldridge. But Arthur is the only Dallas-area McDonald's All-American to lead his team to two straight championships.

Arthur, who plans to leave Saturday for the McDonald's game festivities in San Diego, dominated in the post on offense, rebounding and defense. He played his best in the biggest games. Arthur averaged 28 points and 13.7 rebounds in his final three games – the Region II final and the state tournament games – to end his SOC career in fitting fashion.

"Everybody's happy," Arthur said. "We knew we could do it back-to-back. We were on a mission."

But Arthur's birthday and the quickly approaching NCAA late signing period, which begins April 12, are bringing him into the adult world. He has yet to commit to a college, and fans and media are eager to find out which school he'll choose.

"I know it's probably the most important decision," he said. "I'm thinking about it all the time."

Arthur said Kansas, Texas, Arizona, Baylor and Oklahoma are in the mix. Kansas is the leader. He might take an unofficial visit to Arizona soon. Arthur said he hopes to make a decision by April. Distance could be a factor. He is close to his family. His mom's name, Sandra, is tattooed on his shoulder. His grandmother's name, Ruby, is inscribed on his wrist.

"I'm just looking for a sign," Arthur said. "All the colleges are good colleges. I'm looking at, 'What's the best fit for me? What coach will look out for me like I'm his son?' I need some guidance."

Arthur, who said he is academically qualified for college, leans on his mother, AAU coach Jazzy Hartwell and SOC coach James Mays II to help him make decisions.

Arthur said he wants to enjoy college and will stay "as long as it takes," but his goal is to get to the NBA.

As Arthur turns 18, it's time to think about what his future holds. He's already left his legacy at South Oak Cliff.

Can't we just hire the AAU coach as a conditioning coach or something?

Based on what I've been told about Steve-O, if Arthur was at today's press conference, we might have a commitment by dinner.

The main reason he would come here would be to stay close to home and be able to step right into the lineup at any position he wants.

If he decides that Waco is close enough, Baylor definitely has many advantages over us...BCS conference.....top notch facilities...and a young and popular coach that is an up and comer. Plus, since Baylor stinks, he can do there what he could do at SMU...step onto the floor and be the star from day 1.

Even though I would love for him to come to SMU, if it was my job to give him advice, I would think Baylor would be a perfect fit since he has the goal to leave early for the NBA. Will be much harder to get as many minutes at Kansas, UT, Arizona, or even Oklahoma and he will have good competition to play against to improve his game.

Show him the money or don't even try..

Its simple, he is goin to go to those schools b/c they are flashing cash in front of him.. its basically a down payment for one year...he is probably 90% sure goin pro after his frosh year.
